Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says the\u00a0 All Progressives<\/div>\n
Congress (APC) and other political parties should emulate the Peoples<\/div>\n
Democratic Party (PDP) in the delivery of democratic dividends to the<\/div>\n
citizens.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said the PDP has done well in the State by fulfilling the\u00a0 promises<\/div>\n
it made to people of the State and they now know the difference.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike stated this at the inauguration of the Okoro-Nu-Odo<\/div>\n
Flyover, which was performed by the former Governor of Cross River<\/div>\n
State, Donald Duke, on Monday.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Rivers State Governor challenged the APC\u00a0 to come out bold to tell<\/div>\n
Rivers people what they will do differently or had done already to<\/div>\n
convince the people to believe in them.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike pointed out that like every other project,\u00a0 the<\/div>\n
Okoro-Nu-Odo Flyover is among the best projects his administration has<\/div>\n
delivered because Rivers people deserve the best always.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I want to thank everybody for your support. Our party is not a party of<\/div>\n
excuses. When we say something,\u00a0 we do it. Let other parties emulate us.<\/div>\n
They should not be promising Nigerians and be giving excuses.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have promised and we have fulfilled. When they (APC) make promise<\/div>\n
they should fulfil. PDP has done all its campaigns in this state. Let<\/div>\n
the other parties come to tell us what they will do differently or had<\/div>\n
done while in office. Time is already gone for them.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Speaking further, Governor Wike said sceptics thought the three flyover<\/div>\n
projects he\u00a0 started in 2019 will not be completed within record time of<\/div>\n
16 months. But with Rebisi and\u00a0 Okoro-Nu-Odo flyovers completed and<\/div>\n
commissioned,\u00a0 he said his administration has further demonstrated<\/div>\n
commitment to enhance infrastructure in the State.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The governor warned community leaders who encourage street traders<\/div>\n
around the area to desist from the act because trading activities will<\/div>\n
not be tolerated around the Okoro-Nu-Odo Flyover.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“To the paramount rulers of Rumuokoro Community and Rumuodumaya<\/div>\n
Community, tell your youths and CDCs, who are always collecting money<\/div>\n
here, I will\u00a0 not tolerate anybody who will covert this flyover as<\/div>\n
trading place.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We cannot spend this money here and you turn this place into a market.<\/div>\n
I will not accept that. We have built market and motor park for you. Go<\/div>\n
and use them for your business activities.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I have told the GOC of the 6 Division and the Garrison commander to<\/div>\n
tell all their men to stop what they’re doing on this road. They collect<\/div>\n
money and allow people to sell on the road. We won’t tolerate it again.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Leave our road; this is not market, nobody should trade here. Allow the<\/div>\n
people to enjoy the road.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike described former Governor of Cross River, Donald Duke, as<\/div>\n
role model who inspired him to perform in office.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I invited you because I know when you were governor, you performed very<\/div>\n
well. I will not bring anybody who did not perform in office to come and<\/div>\n
commission my projects.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“You’re our role model. We monitored you while you were in office and to<\/div>\n
see how you took Cross River from nothing to somewhere.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Today, people talk of Cross River and carnival, who’s the originator?<\/div>\n
You’re the one who did everything to put Cross River on the world map.<\/div>\n
People should not forget history. Today,\u00a0 you are here to see the little<\/div>\n
thing we are doing, having emulated what you did.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Inaugurating the Okoro-Nu-Odo Flyover Bridge,\u00a0 former Governor of Cross<\/div>\n
River State, Donald Duke said Governor Wike is a trail blazer who has<\/div>\n
demonstrated leadership and spent state resources prudently for the good<\/div>\n
of Rivers people.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Duke urged the benefiting communities of the project to cherish and<\/div>\n
protect the project as their own contribution to ensuring that the<\/div>\n
resource used to build the bridge does not amount to waste.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I want to congratulate you the people for being steadfast with your<\/div>\n
son. You gave him support and he has delivered.\u00a0 Leadership is not about<\/div>\n
winning election. Leadership is about taking people to a destination.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
You may not always agree with Governor Wike at the onset.\u00a0 Later on<\/div>\n
you’ll understand the wisdom of his stance. But you are never in doubt<\/div>\n
where he stands on any issues and that’s leadership.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Today, we are celebrating many things he has done; the development of a<\/div>\n
community,\u00a0 the prosperity that will be brought into the community,<\/div>\n
leaving the community better than he met it and of course, we are saying<\/div>\n
thank you that we have a leader which is very rare to find in our<\/div>\n
country,\u00a0 that is people who say what they mean and mean what they say.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Providing the description of the project,\u00a0 the Rivers State Commissioner<\/div>\n
of Works,\u00a0 Elloka Tasie-Amadi said the Okoro-Nu-Odo\u00a0 Flyover is one of<\/div>\n
three flyover projects sited strategically to ease travel time for<\/div>\n
commuters in the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The Okoro-Nu-Odo flyover measures 642.75 m from ramp to ramp, 360m of<\/div>\n
that being the suspended section. The transition area from the 4 lane<\/div>\n
East-West Road to the 8 lanes of the bridge project measures 236m. 8<\/div>\n
lanes because we have 4 lanes on the bridge and 4 lanes on the ground<\/div>\n
for both service lanes on either side of the bridge,\u00a0 both of which<\/div>\n
measure 1,760m long and 8.3m wide.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“You are seated in one of the transition zones. This flyover which is a<\/div>\n
wonderful sight to behold at night is lit with 68 streetlight poles\u00a0 26<\/div>\n
of those are single arm while 42 are double arm giving you 110 nos of<\/div>\n
250w luminares, not forgetting the 2 bulkhead luminares under the<\/div>\n
bridge. All of these are powered by a dedicated substation complete with<\/div>\n
a transformer and back up generator.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Commissioner said the Flyover will contribute\u00a0 towards ease of<\/div>\n
travel along the East-West road, and traffic decongestion around the<\/div>\n
area.<\/div>\n

Former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Onueze .C. J Okocha<\/div>\n
(SAN) lauded Governor Wike for his developmental stride and warned the<\/div>\n
