The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the process of
\nreviewing its constitution ahead of 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n
Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary, APC Caretaker and
\nExtra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee said this while
\ninaugurating the party\u2019s eight-man Constitutional Review Committee in
\nAbuja on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the formation stages, parties will often adopt the minimum
\nrequirements needed to secure registration.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut as a pro-peoples party, the APC leadership of Gov. Mai Mala Buni
\nbelieves that in rebuilding the party, there must be reforms that
\nreflect the current trends and aspirations of the owners of the party:
\nthat is the people, the masses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said\u00a0 that law itself was not a finished product, but a work in
\nprogress.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur party has grown quite large in the last few years and is poised to
\nbecome the largest party on the continent with the on going membership
\nregistration and revalidation exercise.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor this reason, we must have a set of laws that is near perfect, by
\nfilling the lacunas. Therefore, your work is well set out for you,\u201d he
\ntold the committee members.<\/p>\n
Akpanudoedehe said\u00a0 that the capacities of members of the committee were
\nnot in doubt.<\/p>\n
According to him, the party therefore, expects the committee to work as
\na team to
\nharness its abilities for the overall benefit of the APC and its larger
\nmembers.<\/p>\n
He said the party expected the committee to seek\u00a0 inputs from critical
\nstakeholders, advocacy groups and party members in the course of the
\nassignment.<\/p>\n
Prof.Tahir Mamman, chairman of the committee in his remarks, thanked the
\nparty\u2019s leadership for the confidence reposed in them.<\/p>\n
He assured that the committee would work within the time frame and
\napproach its task with all seriousness.<\/p>\n
Tahir said the committee would also ensure that the exercise was all
\ninclusive by seeking inputs from interested stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Other members of the committee included-Prof. Dakas Dakas, Mr Akinremi
\nOlaide,Dr Ego Ezuma, Mr Mohammed Kumaila, Mr Shuaibu Aruwa and Mr Ekokoi
