Former Governor of Katsina State,\u00a0 Ibrahim Shehu Shema has called on all
\nNigerians to sink their differences and work together against insurgents
\nwho have continued to threaten national peace and unity.<\/p>\n
He made the call before inaugurating the reconstructed Chief Ferdinand
\nAlabaraba Crescent and Opobo Crescent in GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt,
\nRivers State on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Shema who was Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike special guest, said most
\nNigerians have become preoccupied with their disagreement in the
\npolitical sphere and seem to have ignored the danger criminal elements
\nposed to national life if they are allowed to have a field day.<\/p>\n
“Nigeria must come together in this period of insecurity.\u00a0 We must not
\ngive the bandits,\u00a0 the kidnappers and\u00a0 the Boko Haram the opportunity to
\nhave a field day while Nigerians are fighting and arguing with each
\nother.<\/p>\n
“We must come together, join hands together for the purpose of Nigeria
\nand Nigerians. My word of caution here is that we cannot allow criminal
\nelements to overtake our national life.<\/p>\n
“So, I am calling on all stakeholders across the nation to join hands
\ntogether to end this threat to our national well-being.”<\/p>\n
The former Katsina State Governor noted the huge investment the Rivers
\nState Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has made in ensuring food security in
\nthe State.<\/p>\n
He said focusing on agriculture and using it to engage the youths is
\nanother milestone of success secured in the development of Rivers State
\nand its people.<\/p>\n
“Huge investment has gone into infrastructural development; both soft
\nand hard infrastructure.\u00a0 You are also working hard on food security.<\/p>\n
“You’re doing this cassava facility for youths to be trained there.\u00a0 We
\nneed to focus heavily on agriculture for our youths to benefit and grow
\nin modern skill of infrastructural development in Rivers State and
\nNigeria.”<\/p>\n
Speaking further, Shema commended the governor for consistently
\ndeveloping critical infrastructure, changing the landscape of the state
\nand making life comfortable for the people.<\/p>\n
“Rivers State, since you became governor, is experiencing changes in
\nterms of development. The list goes on because you have touched all
\nsectors.<\/p>\n
“But clearly, what is critical in this effort of governance is that
\nyou’re applying resources where it matters most.<\/p>\n
“You’re therefore helping to grow the economy in Rivers State by which
\nyou’re ensuring peace and security with economic development.<\/p>\n
“I am sure,\u00a0 by the grace of God,\u00a0 that by the time you leave office
\nyour after story will live after you and your children.”<\/p>\n
On his part, Governor Wike said his administration is making its modest
\ncontribution towards restoring the Garden City status of Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n
He noted that the support he has continued to enjoy from leaders in the
\nState has enabled his team to have such success record in service\u00a0 to
\nthe state.<\/p>\n
“Let me say clearly that in the course of our campaigns, we did say that
\nwe will bring back Port Harcourt to what it used to be.<\/p>\n
“The special guest of honour who had lived in Port Harcourt before, can
\nattest to it that we are trying our best to bring back Port Harcourt to
\nwhat it used to be in our own modest way.<\/p>\n
“I’m happy with the leaders of the State for their support. Whatever we
\nare doing in this State, we do it as a team. That is why you see the
\nleadership always together.<\/p>\n
“I thank them for their support. But for them, it would have been
\nimpossible for us to carry out the jobs that we have been doing.<\/p>\n
“When they are giving you the support, you’re bound to do more. But if
\nwhen you’re working, you see division within your family it will, of
\ncourse, discourage you. Let me thank my leaders for what they are doing
\nto move the state forward.”<\/p>\n
The governor also commended Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for delivering the
\nproject on schedule and the communities for not disrupting the
\nconstruction work.<\/p>\n
According to him, in the overall they all benefited from the employments
\nand other economic activities that transpired while the project lasted
\nand the company accomplished their goal.<\/p>\n
Rivers State Commissioner for works, Elloka Tasie-Amadi said the project
\nis another testimony of a true, purposeful and responsible leadership
\nprovided by governor Wike.<\/p>\n
Speaking with journalists, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr.
\nTammy Danagogo said he is delighted to be part of the Wike
\nadministration that has with determination, repositioned the State as
\nthe headquarters of the hydrocarbon industry in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
According to him, without the strategic sitting of the development
\nprojects, the governor, as a farsighted leader,\u00a0 is also expanding the
\ncity into other local government areas to achieve holistic development
\nof the state, it’s economy and the people.<\/p>\n
