Thugs reportedly numbering over 30 have vandalized the homes of town
\nunion officials in Obuohia- Okike community in Ikwuano Local Government
\nArea of Abia State.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com gathered that the thugs destroyed household
\nproperties, windows and doors and looted undisclosed sums of cash.<\/p>\n
The affected officials; Comrade Nwachukwu Chukwuma,Deacon Nwaogu
\nChijindu, Rev. Josiah Ogbonna and Mr. Obasi Christian, who are leaders
\nof the Obuohia-Okike Community Development Association ,are said to have
\nfled the community after the vandalization of their homes.<\/p>\n
In a petition by their counsel, Charles Okwudiri Azubuike , titled;
\n”Use of cult boys\u00a0 to terrorize embattled members of cabinet over
\ncontrol of Obuohia- Okike palm fruit , vandalization of native
\nresidential houses, armed robbery and arson”, the town officials
\naccused the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Mgbeonyere Eleribe,
\nof allegedly instigating the youths to attack them and destroy their
\nhomes.<\/p>\n
The suspects; Udochukwu Nwankwo, Izuchi Ubani and others now at large
\nwere alleged to have vandalized the residences of the town union
\nofficials and threatened to kill them.<\/p>\n
Sources told Pointblanknews.com that the bone of contention is the
\ncontrol of the community palm fruit which the town officials oversee.
\nHowever, the monarch allegedly instigated the youths to attack the town
\nunion officials as the latter refused to submit to the interference of
\nthe monarch.<\/p>\n
“The problem is who controls the community palm fruits.\u00a0 The
\nconstitution of the community gives the town union officials the power
\nto control the palm fruits and use it to run the community, but Eze
\nEleribe is not happy with the current officials. He has made many
\nunsuccessful attempts to suspend or sack them, but the community people
\nare backing the town union officials. It was Eze Eleribe who told the
\nyouths that he had sacked the officials and\u00a0 handed power to them. This
\nencouraged the youths\u00a0 who brought thugs to vandalize the homes of the
\ntown union executives.”<\/p>\n
A complaint of the incident was said to have been lodged at the zone 9
\npolice command where some suspects have been arrested while the police
\nhad also invited Eze Eleribe over the vandalization of the homes of the
\ntown union officials.<\/p>\n
Spokesperson, zone 9 police command, Janet Egwu, confirmed the arrest of
\nthe suspects and the invitation of the monarch over the matter.<\/p>\n
