President Muhammadu Buhari has rejoiced with Nigerian women on the
\noccasion of this year\u2019s International Women\u2019s Day, describing them as
\nthe bedrock of society.<\/p>\n

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi
\nAdesina in Abuja on Monday, Buhari noted that the theme of the 2021
\ncelebration: \u201cChoose To Challenge\u201d, is apt.<\/p>\n

The president restated his administration\u2019s commitment to addressing the
\nchallenges confronting women at various levels of the society.<\/p>\n

According to him, several women including seven female ministers,\u00a0 in
\naddition to scores more are currently in charge of key parastatal
\nagencies, as well as serving as presidential aides.<\/p>\n

He said the women were performing well in their respective ministries
\nand agencies.<\/p>\n

He added that \u201ctwo female ministers are heading strategic Ministries of
\nFinance, Budget and National Planning; and Humanitarian Affairs,
\nDisaster Management and Social Development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buhari applauded their contributions to the successes recorded by the
\nadministration.<\/p>\n

He said \u201cI am proud of our women who have shown by dint of hard work and
\ncapacity that they can perform creditably if given the opportunity at
\nhome and on the global stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pledged further support toward female gender inclusiveness in all
\nsectors of national life, stressing that \u201cwomen are key to a happy and
\nstable family, society and nation.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

With females forming about half of the country\u2019s population, Buhari
\naverred that \u201cany government which neglects such a crucial component of
\nits demographic asset stands the risk of stunted growth and likely
\nfailure.\u201d<\/p>\n

He condemned all forms of gender-based discriminations, abuse,
\nharassment and violence targeted especially at the female folk at work
\nplaces, schools, community and national levels.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian leader wished all Nigerian women joyous and memorable 2021
\nInternational Women\u2019s Day celebration. (NAN)<\/p>\n
