A socio-political group, the One Nigeria Movement (ONM) has described
\nthe statement from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA),
\ndenying the claim by the NSA, General Babagana Monguno (rtd), that
\nneither the money approved by Buhari for arm purchase nor arms was met
\non ground when the new service chiefs assumed office as afterthought.<\/p>\n
The ONM,\u00a0 which also said the NSA was acting desperately to secure his
\njob inspite of his seeming failure and also shield himself from
\nimpending investigations, asked why he was plotting the arrest of the
\nimmediate past Service Chiefs for trial by the International Criminal
\nCourt (ICC).<\/p>\n
Monguno had insinuated in an interview with the BBC Hausa that General
\nAbayomi Olonisakin, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Vice Admiral
\nIbok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, recently retired
\nas Chief of Defense Staff,\u00a0 Chief of Army Staff,\u00a0 Chief of Naval Staff
\nand Chief of Air Staff respectively, will be investigated for the
\nmissing arms funds.<\/p>\n
However,\u00a0 in an unsigned statement from the NSA office, it was claimed
\nthat General Monguno was quoted out of context and that he did not
\ncategorically say that funds meant for arms procurement were missing
\nunder the former Service Chiefs.<\/p>\n
However,\u00a0 reacting in a statement on Friday night, by its Convener
\nGeneral, Ahmed
\nSodiq-Mugoro and Secretary, Babatunde Aliyu, ONM, said there was more
\nto the denial of the allegation by the ONSA and Presidency than meet
\nthe eyes.<\/p>\n
The ONM said what the NSA said on the BBC Hausa service was clear and
\nunambiguous.<\/p>\n
What he said was that neither the money approved for arm purchase nor
\narms was met on ground when the new service chiefs assumed office. He
\nwent further to say that preliminary investigation showed the funds
\nare missing and the equipment is nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n
So how was the NSA quoted out of context? Or was he that the BBC Hausa
\nService aired a different interview entirely from the one it had with
\nthe NSA?<\/p>\n
To us,\u00a0 Nigerians wants to know the truth.\u00a0 Nigerians want to know
\nwhat happened to the billions of dollars released to purchase arms.<\/p>\n
And most importantly,\u00a0 Nigerians want to know the role played by the
\nNSA in all these because General Monguno cannot claim to be unaware of
\nthe missing funds and non availability of arms when the former Service
\nChiefs were still in office? Why did he not talk then?<\/p>\n
Finally,\u00a0 how far has the NSA gone in his plot to get the former
\nService Chiefs,\u00a0 especially the ex Chief of Army Staff,\u00a0 General Tukur
