A Bill for an Act to establish Federal College of Education, Bende in Abia has passed second reading in the House of Representatives.<\/div>\n

\nThe bill which seeks to provide full-time courses, training in
\ntechnology, applied sciences, commerce, social sciences, arts and
\nhumanities among others was sponsored by Rep. Benjamin Kalu (APC-Abia)
\nat plenary on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The bill was read the first time in the hallowed chamber on Wednesday,
\nJune 10, 2020.<\/p>\n

Leading the debate, Kalu said that the importance of education in the
\nsociety cannot be overemphasised saying that education is important for
\na happy and stable life, for better income and livelihood and for social
\nequality.<\/p>\n

According to him, education makes a person self- dependent, turns dreams
\ninto reality and makes the world a better and safer place.<\/p>\n

On the location, Kalu said Bende Local Government Area of Abia is the
\nsingle oldest and largest Local Government Area in the South-East
\ngeo-political zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cBende has remained undivided since its creation in 1976, even though
\nwith the size of four Local Government Areas as found in comparative
\nfederal constituencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite its strategic location in Abia and sharing border with Akwa
\nIbom, with a growing population and land mass, there is no tertiary
\ninstitution in the Federal Constituency operated either by Federal or
\nState Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cBende deserves to have the presence of a tertiary institution to serve
\nthe education need of the teeming youthful population, especially now
\nthat the need for well-trained educationists has risen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is accompanied with the need to fill the gaps created by both the
\nconsequences of brain drain and the lack of qualified educationists to
\nprovide quality training at all levels of education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In his ruling, the Speaker of the house , Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila
\nreferred bill to House Committee on Tertiary Education for further
\nlegislative actions.<\/p>\n

Recall that a Bill for an Act to establish Federal College of
\nAgriculture, Ishiagu, Ebonyi passed second reading in the House of
\nRepresentatives on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The bill which was also sponsored by Kalu seeks to ensure adoption of
\nagricultural techniques, enhance research and development in
\nagriculture.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also serve as catalyst for effective agricultural education
\nsystem through training, research and innovation, for effective economic
\nutilisation and conservation of the country\u2019s human and material
\nresources.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will identify the modern agricultural education needs of the society
\nwith a view to finding solutions in the interest of national
