The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said the jailed Professor Peter Ogban, who was found guilty of manipulating<\/div>\n

election results colluded with the Independent National Electoral Commissioner\u2019s Resident Electoral Commissioner and the Peoples
\nDemocratic Party, PDP.<\/p>\n

Akpabio said the three manipulated the election in Akwa Ibom State while debunking\u00a0the claim by the PDP that the professor was punished for
\nrigging for him and the APC.<\/p>\n

Akpabio\u2019s response came in a statement by his spokesman, Aniete Ekong.\u201c In their desperation in a continuing campaign of calumny against<\/p>\n

Senator Akpabio, the INEC in Akwa Ibom State twisted the context of the judgment and maliciously claimed that the election was rigged in favour of\u00a0Senator Akpabio.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing could be further from the truth. The facts of the case put a lie\u00a0to this assertion.<\/p>\n

\u201cContrarily, Senator Akpabio was a victim of the fraudulent manipulation of\u00a0the election of Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District held on
\nFebruary 23, 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is vindicated that the perpetrators of the electoral fraud are being brought\u00a0to justice. At last, the chickens are coming home to roost.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt could be recalled that Sen. Godswill Akpabio had approached the National\u00a0Assembly Election Tribunal to challenge the outcome of February
\n23, 2019, Senatorial District elections held in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial\u00a0District,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

Akpabio accused Professor Ogban, the Returning Officer of Akwa Ibom North-West\u00a0Senatorial District, alongside the REC, Mr Mike Igini, of
\nhijacking the Election Results from the Senatorial District Collation Headquarters, Ikot Ekpene, to another Senatorial District at the INEC office\u00a0in Uyo.<\/p>\n

The statement further reads, \u201cIn that election, Sen. Godswill Akpabio\u2019s votes, totalling about 61,329 in his LGA \u2013 Essien Udim Local Government, were not announced by Prof. Peter Ogban in accordance with the provisions\u00a0of the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cRather, Prof Ogban who served as the Senatorial District Returning Officer\u00a0joined the Resident Electoral Commissioner to Uyo where the
\nvotes\/ scores of Sen. Akpabio were cancelled in various polling units and\u00a0collation centres of different Local Government Areas constituting
\nAkwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District including 61,329 votes of his home\u00a0local government.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn appeal from the National Assembly Election Tribunal to the Court of Appeal\u00a0invalidated the elections and a rerun election was ordered in
\nEssien Udim Local Government Area because of the fraudulent act of Prof Ogban\u00a0and Mike Igini.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only surprise is that it is only the Returning Officer that was charged\u00a0while the REC is still parading himself in freedom.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a judgment of the Court of Appeal, the justices allowed the appeal by Senator Godswill Akpabio and ordered a Rerun election, while the Certificate\u00a0of Return of the PDP candidate was withdrawn and nullified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe court condemned the action of the INEC and that of Prof. Ogban for which\u00a0Prof. Ogban was charged, found guilty and sentenced to three years
\nimprisonment and a fine of N100,000. The sentence has vindicated Senator Akpabio\u00a0and the APC that the election was massively rigged.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe question is: who was the beneficiary of the electoral fraud and manipulation\u00a0in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District? Certainly, not
\nSenator Akpabio, which was why he challenged the outcome of the election up to the Court of Appeal, which upheld his appeal and ordered a rerun election with very strong condemnation of the activities of the Returning\u00a0Officer and INEC. How could the same man whose actions Senator
\nAkpabio was dissatisfied with and challenged in court be said to have rigged\u00a0the election for Senator Akpabio?<\/p>\n

\u201cIn due time, we believe all the conspirators will be brought to justice as\u00a0Prof. Ogban, either through the judiciary or divine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
