The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself
\nfrom Monday\u2019s attacks on Police and Correctional Service headquarters in
\nImo.<\/p>\n

Its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said in a statement
\nissued in Owerri on Monday that the group was formed on the principle of
\npeace and would not compromise its principles.<\/p>\n

It would also not attack government\u2019s facilities, he stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe attention of IPOB has been drawn to the fallacious and fabricated
\nreports that it is involved in the attack of prison and police
\nheadquarters in Imo.<\/p>\n

\u201cIPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN) are known groups, not unknown
\ngunmen. ESN is in the bush chasing terrorists and have no business with
\nthe said attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were not involved in the attack in Owerri and the recent attack on
\nOnitsha-Owerri road at Ukwuorji junction.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not our mandate to attack security personnel or prison
\nfacilities,\u2019\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n

The reports that headquarters of the Police in Imo as well as that of
\nthe Correctional Service were attacked at about 2 a.m. on Monday by
\nunknown gunmen.<\/p>\n

They set hundreds of inmates free from the Correctional Centre and set
\nmany vehicles there ablaze.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
