Tears flowed freely at the Jema\u2019a Local Government Area Secretariat in Kafanchan in Kaduna state on Wednesday as about 82 staff of the council received letters of disengagement from the Kaduna State Government.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nThe disengagement follows weeks of speculations that the state government was planning to downsize its workforce across the its 23 Local\u00a0Government Areas.<\/p>\n

When NAN visited the Secretariat, some of the affected members of staff were\u00a0seen holding their letters as they struggled to fight back tears.<\/p>\n

According to one of the letters, the move is in line with the ongoing restructuring of the Local Governments in the state to reposition them for\u00a0efficient service.<\/p>\n

One of the affected staff, who pleaded anonymity, wondered why the state government\u00a0will take such an action at a trying time such as this.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is the state government doing this to us now. Don\u2019t they know the difficult\u00a0times we are in as a country.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are barely struggling to survive with the little they are earning and then you decide to take the food out of their mouth,\u201d the affected\u00a0staff said.<\/p>\n

Another affected staff, who did not want his name mentioned for fear of being denied his entitlement, told NAN that he has accepted his fate and was\u00a0looking forward to better days ahead.<\/p>\n

On his part, Ajayi Chiroma, who said he had five years left in service, appealed\u00a0to the state government to ensure prompt payment of affected
\nstaff benefits as stated in the letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just hope they pay us our entitlements soon enough because that\u2019s theonly thing we are going to fall back to at the end of the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the only thing that can console us right now. So, government should please do the needful since they don\u2019t require our services anymore,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Council Vice Chairman, Micah Ngboni, told NAN that he could not give further\u00a0details other than that \u2018not more than 82 people were
