Abia State Government has shut the Union Primary School, Afaraukwu in
\nUmuahia North Local Government Area following the discovery of a
\nsubstance suspected to be a bomb at the school.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com learnt that the pupils had discovered a bag at a
\ncorner of the school and informed their teachers who called the
\nattention of the school authorities.<\/p>\n
Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, said the government
\nis working with relevant security agencies to unravel the source and
\nnature of the suspected explosive device found at the Primary School.<\/p>\n
He added that though the government is awaiting an official report from
\nthe police ordinance department, initial examination of the devices
\nshowed evidence of corrosion leading to suspicion of the materials being
\nrelics of the civil war era.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are awaiting definite official report from the EOD squad of the
\nNigeria Police who are currently investigating the incident. Necessary
\nmeasures have been taken to protect the pupils and staff of the school
\nwith security sweeps ongoing while the school is temporarily closed.<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed security agencies to embark on
\nproactive checks in other vulnerable locations out of abundance of
\ncaution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we are grateful to God that there is no harm to life or property,
\nwe urge citizens and residents to continue to maintain vigilance and
