{"id":79736,"date":"2021-04-15T01:27:30","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T00:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=79736"},"modified":"2021-04-15T01:27:30","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T00:27:30","slug":"united-nigeria-airline-unveils-plans-to-set-up-mro-facility-in-enugu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/united-nigeria-airline-unveils-plans-to-set-up-mro-facility-in-enugu\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nigeria Airline unveils plans to set up MRO facility in Enugu"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1697052126158251745\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">The United Nigeria Airlines has unveiled plans to acquire lands from the<br \/>\nFederal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to set up its own<br \/>\nMaintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) facility in Enugu State.<\/p>\n<p>Its Chairman, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, unveiled the airline\u2019s plans at an<br \/>\ninteractive session with members of the League of Airports and Aviation<br \/>\nCorrespondents (LAAC) in Lagos on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nigeria Airlines began its operations eight weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo said that the facility, when established, would serve the<br \/>\nairline and others, both domestically and in the sub-region.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWe are in a process of acquiring land space from FAAN to set<br \/>\nup our MRO since our base is in Enugu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to establish it there, in Enugu, and we have given ourselves 24<br \/>\nmonths to start doing our own C-Check in our facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, because we are in the process of getting the land, we are<br \/>\nalready two months behind schedule,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman said the airline was already in talks with foreign<br \/>\npartners, adding that those talks had reached an advanced stage.<\/p>\n<p>He said the airline was in for the long haul, and that was why the<br \/>\nairline was building capacity in-house to handle A-Checks 1A-3A.<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo said it was negotiating for two additional Embraer ERJ145<br \/>\naircraft to help its consolidation plans on the domestic route and to<br \/>\nprocure a bigger aircraft soon to aid in strengthening its all round<br \/>\noperations.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the bold moves, he said the Embraer 145 for the airline was a<br \/>\ngood fit, especially with regards to fuel efficiency, load factor and<br \/>\nbreaking even.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman, however, said the airline, in the near future, might<br \/>\nconsider a bigger aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe ERJ 145 is a good fuel efficient aircraft, and we are<br \/>\nnegotiating an additional two Embraers and we will use that to<br \/>\nconsolidate on our entire routes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you know, after we do that, we will go for a bigger aircraft. The<br \/>\nEmbraer is a good fuel efficient aircraft, but we need a bigger aircraft<br \/>\nfor baggage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have gone through due diligence before we earmarked the ERJ as<br \/>\nchoice of aircraft and the fuel utilisation is a huge advantage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may surprise you to know that the evening we got our Air Operators<br \/>\nCertificate (AOC), we opened our portal and the first flight within 12<br \/>\nhours we have full passenger load.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo noted that the airline had transported 25,000 passengers with an<br \/>\naverage of 3,200 passengers weekly since it began operations eight weeks<br \/>\nago.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, Mr Linus Awute, Director of Administration of the airline,<br \/>\nsaid the airline was trying to grow organically.<\/p>\n<p>Awute added that it did not mistake its recent successes in passenger<br \/>\ntraffic for the norms and that was why it had not immediately introduced<br \/>\nmore aircraft.
