The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Usman Alkali Baba, NPM, psc
\n(+), fdc has unveiled a new policing vision and crime fighting
\nstrategies for the Nigeria Police Force.<\/p>\n
The IGP made the new operational protocols public, Thursday during the
\ninaugural conference with Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police,
\nCommissioners of Police and other Heads of Police Formations in the
\ncountry, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by the Force Spokesman CP Frank Mba said “the
\nhighlights of the new policing vision include; deploying cutting-edge
\npolicing technology and integrating intelligence-led policing practices
\nto core policing functions, with a view to strengthening police capacity
\nto stabilise the internal security order and restore public confidence
\nin the Force.<\/p>\n
“The new policing vision equally seeks to, among other things, give full
\neffect to the concept of community policing and deliver quality police
\nservice that will be guided by the principles of public accountability
\nand conformity to the rule of law. It will also embrace the social
\ncontent of policing in which police officers see themselves as
\ncompassionate servants and helpers of the citizens.<\/p>\n
“The IGP stated that the meeting with the Strategic Commanders was
\nconvened to discuss strategies to roll-back the unacceptable security
\ntide occasioned by the increasing threat to internal security by terror
\nelements, bandits, kidnappers, armed robbery syndicates and arms
\ntraffickers.<\/p>\n
“The IGP reassured citizens that the Force under his leadership shall
\nevolve a new policing culture where police officers will uphold the
\nrights of the people and work within professional standards.<\/p>\n
“He expressed confidence that in the shortest possible time, the new
\npolicing vision and operational strategies would return our beloved
\nnation to the path of public safety, security and peace.<\/p>\n
“Meanwhile, as part of the Force reorganizational plans to ensure that
\nits units operate only in the context of their original mandates and
\nremain human rights compliant, humane and people-driven, the IGP has
\nordered the immediate reforms of the IGP Monitoring Unit and the
\ndisbandment of all its satellite offices across the country.”<\/p>\n
