Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, says the baffling state of
\ninsecurity and the unchallenged killings of citizens by outlaws in parts
\nof the country is a clear manifestation of bad leadership.<\/p>\n
He said it is now obvious to those who threw caution to the wind to
\nfoist such bad leadership on the people, that Nigeria has collapsed.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike made the assertion when he had an interactive session with
\ntraditional rulers, political and opinion leaders of Andoni nationality
\nat Government House,\u00a0 Port Harcourt on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to Governor Wike, instead of leaders to be bold to speak
\nagainst the ills in the land and sincerely pursue solutions to them,
\nthey indulge in sycophancy.<\/p>\n
“Nigeria has totally collapsed. Look at, today, what happened in
\nNasarawa and Benue States, how they slaughtered people on the road. See
\nwhat is happening in Niger State and the APC Governor there is crying,
\nsaying he has been talking to the Federal Government\u00a0 but nobody has
\nlistened to him. And that Boko Haram has come to take over the state,
\nwhich is closest to Abuja.”<\/p>\n
The governor\u00a0 recalled\u00a0 that when he raised\u00a0 alarm of the looming danger
\nof insecurity it was politicised, some persons in the opposition
\ndismissed it as mere politics. But, ironically states controlled by the
\nAll Progressives Congress (APC) are now the worst hit.<\/p>\n
“Look at Kaduna and Imo States, there is insecurity everywhere. The only
\nanger I have with Imo State Governor is this; I don’t know how people
\npoliticise things.”<\/p>\n
The governor castigated APC governors for claiming their party has
\nsolved the problems of hunger,\u00a0 unemployment, whereas they could barely
\nstay in their State to provide governance for those who elected them.<\/p>\n
“Nigeria has a lot of problems and they keep running to the villa
\neveryday to disturb Mr.\u00a0 President, for him to see their faces, pose for
\nphotograph and will\u00a0 not allow him to work.<\/p>\n
“You know you have crisis at your place,\u00a0 you can’t stay to solve it,
\nbut everyday you go to see Mr. President so that the world will know
\nthat you’re close to him.”<\/p>\n
Governor Wike assured that the Andoni axis of the Ogoni-Opobo-Andoni
\nUnity Road project will be completed by August 2021 because the
\ncontractor has been so directed.<\/p>\n
He also challenged the different levels of leadership in Andoni to
\npriorise development of the entire area and work together to actualise
\nit.<\/p>\n
“The Opobo axis of the road will be ready by May 2021. I’ve told the
\ncontractor that there will be no excuse for the Andoni axis of the unity
\nroad project not to be completed before August or September 2021. I
\nknow, we have paid over 90 per cent.<\/p>\n
The governor charged the delegation to collectively work with the State
\ngovernment to tackle the issue of insecurity in Andoni.<\/p>\n
“We cannot achieve it if you do not work with us. Traditional rulers,
\nchairman of council, and opinion leaders, you must work with us by
\ngiving us information that will help the security agencies to address
\nthe security challenge.”<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of the delegation,\u00a0 the Okan Ama of Ikuru Town, King
\nAaron Ikuru said they were in Government House, to seek intervention of
\nthe State government in the security challenges in Andoni.<\/p>\n
“We recognise and acknowledge your efforts in the timely deployment
\njoint Taskforce to Unyeada and Asarama axis in 2020 to quell the rage
\ncaused by some youths then.<\/p>\n
“Recently,\u00a0 the deployment of the newly reformed C. 4.i security outfits
\nto Ngo Town,\u00a0 our Local Government Headquarters. These interventions
\nbrought relative peace.<\/p>\n
“These efforts put in by the Traditional Rulers,\u00a0 Chiefs and leaders of
\nAndoni in 2020 on this matter yielded no result and the cultists are
\ntaking advantage of this to inflict more harms on our people.”<\/p>\n
