{"id":80122,"date":"2021-04-28T19:45:37","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T18:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=80122"},"modified":"2021-04-28T19:45:37","modified_gmt":"2021-04-28T18:45:37","slug":"efcc-quizzes-former-prisons-boss-ekpendu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/efcc-quizzes-former-prisons-boss-ekpendu\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC quizzes former Prisons Boss, Ekpendu\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1698308080312229489\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">LA former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, is currently being interrogated by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nMr Ekpendu is being questioned over allegations of involvement in a case of procurement fraud and diversion of public funds, according to an inside source.<\/p>\n<p>The former Prisons boss, who arrived at the headquarters of the Commission\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">at about 10 am Wednesday<\/a>, willingly responded to an invitation by the anti-graft agency.<\/p>\n<p>Although details of the case against Mr Ekpendu were sketchy as of the time of filing this report, sources said four companies belonging him were allegedly fingered in suspicious payments over contracts executed for the Correctional Service.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear when the contracts were executed and payments made. Nigeria\u2019s Code of Conduct Act forbids the country\u2019s public office holders from running private businesses while in office.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Mr Ekpendu was invited and was being interrogated by operatives.
