{"id":80444,"date":"2021-05-06T20:01:47","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T19:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=80444"},"modified":"2021-05-06T20:01:47","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T19:01:47","slug":"gunmen-kidnap-many-abia-varsity-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/gunmen-kidnap-many-abia-varsity-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunmen kidnap many Abia varsity students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted an unspecified number of students of Abia State University Uturu, ABSU.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered the incident occurred\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">on Wednesday night around 8:00pm<\/a>\u00a0along the Okigwe-Uturu Road while the students were in a commercial bus returning to campus.<\/p>\n<p>The Abia State Government confirmed the incident and assured that efforts were being intensified to ensure the safe return of the abducted students.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu who gave the assurance in a press release and the state government was collaborating with the neighbouring Imo State to rescue and students.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read in part:\u201d Abia State Government is currently monitoring an incident that happened in Okigwe, Imo State, yesterday which led to the suspected abduction of yet to be determined number of students of the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), who apparently ran into a yet to be identified gang of hoodlums operating along the Okigwe-Uturu Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary information available to us indicates that the students were moving in a mini van from Okigwe to Uturu between\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">7pm \u2013 8pm<\/a>\u00a0when they ran into the armed gang who marched them into the nearby forest along with other yet to be identified travelers.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Two of the students managed to escape from the hoodlums while others are still being held at a yet to be identified location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working with the government of Imo State and relevant security agencies in both states to ensure the rescue of the abducted students and others.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cMembers of the public and ABSU community are advised to remain calm as we will spare no resource in ensuring the safety of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo criminal operating within our environment will be allowed to escape justice as we take the job of protecting lives and property of Abians and visitors to the State very seriously.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted an unspecified number of students of Abia State University Uturu, ABSU.
