{"id":80596,"date":"2021-05-10T15:14:29","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T14:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=80596"},"modified":"2021-05-10T15:14:29","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T14:14:29","slug":"igp-team-arrests-imo-newspaper-vendors-over-ipob-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/igp-team-arrests-imo-newspaper-vendors-over-ipob-stories\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP team arrests Imo newspaper vendors over IPOB stories."},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1699378770432886801\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police have arrested no fewer than seven newspaper vendors and distribution agents in Imo State.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe police operatives swooped on them\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">on Monday morning<\/a>\u00a0at their base located at Number\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">5 Rotibi Street, Douglas Road<\/a>, Owerri, as the circulation of the day\u2019s newspapers was ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Other vendors and distribution agents who ran away, told Journalists that the gun-wielding police operatives accused them of circulating newspaper publications that had stories on the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and that were \u201canti-state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the vendors who escaped the arrest said \u201cas we were circulating our newspapers for the Monday edition, policemen putting on jackets that had IRT inscription swooped on us and started arresting us. The ones they took away were the ones that had Newspapers that had IPOB stories and the ones they said were against the Government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the vendors and distribution agents arrested by the IGP\u2019s team are Nnamso Okoro, Nelson Enyiama, Blessing Isinwa, Onyebuchi Iwundu, and Michael.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe arrest of the newspaper vendors and distribution agents elicited reactions as residents of the state asked the government to stop clamping down on the press.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The arrest also affected newspaper circulation in the state on Monday as the other vendors and distribution agents fled over the fear of being arrested.<\/p>\n<p>When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abutu Yaro, said that the operatives were not from his command.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police have arrested no fewer than seven newspaper vendors and distribution agents in Imo State.
