The Rivers state chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria has called for the investigation and possible prosecution of the sacked Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Emeka Wogu.<\/p>\n
The Party\u2019s position was contained in a press statement signed by its State publicity Secretary, Mr. Jerry Needam.<\/p>\n
According to the party, the investigation and prosecution of Mr. Wogu has become imperative following revelations by Gov. Chibuike Amaechi that tax payers\u2019 money was released to the sacked commissioner\u00a0 for the purchase of new trucks, rehabilitation of old ones and acquisition of working implements for the State Fire Service.<\/p>\n
It further regretted that several months after the release of the tax payers\u2019 money, the Rivers State Government Fire Service Station still remains moribund, making it difficult to respond to distress calls particularly the January 1, 2013 fire incident at the dump site in Gambia Street, Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n
The party warned Gov. Amaechi against shielding corrupt officers of his administration, alleging that aides of the governor are illegally enriching themselves.<\/p>\n
It recalled that similar insinuations had been made against officials of his administration during the rehabilitation of victims of the recent flood disaster in the State of which Mr. Wogu was among.<\/p>\n
The party vows to drag the sacked commissioner before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if the governor refuses to order for his arrest; to serve as lesson to other corrupt officers of his administration.<\/p>\n
