Governor of Rivers State,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has ordered the<\/div>\n
destruction of all criminal hideouts in Ahoada, Elele, Eleme and Onne to<\/div>\n
prevent\u00a0 attempt to undermine security of the State.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The governor said criminals are already coming to terms with the reality<\/div>\n
that Rivers State is too hot for them to invade at will and detonate<\/div>\n
their foolish attack on targeted security posts and personnel.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike, who made this assertion in a state broadcast on Friday,<\/div>\n
disclosed that the State government has identified the hideouts, safe<\/div>\n
houses and secret places that provide both cover and comfort for the<\/div>\n
hoodlums to plan, execute and return to after operations.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This was the reason we ordered the destruction of all the shanties and<\/div>\n
makeshift structures located along Elele to Ahoada expanse of the<\/div>\n
East\u2013West road to deny the criminals the opportunity to continue to<\/div>\n
undermine our security from these hideouts.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have equally decided to destroy all the shanties, illegal shops and<\/div>\n
mechanic sheds along the Eleme to Onne stretch of the East-West road<\/div>\n
having discovered these places also as hideouts and operational bases<\/div>\n
for criminals and criminal activities in the State.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Consequently, I hereby direct owners of such shanties and illegal<\/div>\n
structures along the Eleme \u2013 Onne axis of the East-West road to vacate<\/div>\n
the area within two weeks from today 11th June 2021 as the State<\/div>\n
Government will go ahead to destroy these structures without any further<\/div>\n
notice.”<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike said Government is not unmindful of the economic effect<\/div>\n
these measures will have or may have had on residents carrying out<\/div>\n
businesses in the affected areas. He, however stressed that government<\/div>\n
is merely discharging its constitutional responsibility to advance the<\/div>\n
collective security of all with no ethnic targets in mind or attachment<\/div>\n
to political sentiments.<\/div>\n

He\u00a0 explained that the existing curfew\u00a0 in Rivers state will not last<\/div>\n
one day beyond necessary and plead with all residents to endure the<\/div>\n
temporary inconveniences in the interest of the State and collective<\/div>\n
wellbeing of all.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We will continue to take the war on criminality and insecurity to the<\/div>\n
den of the criminals and we will neither yield nor lower the tempo of<\/div>\n
our assault until they are comprehensively neutralized. As a matter of<\/div>\n
fact, they want us to prematurely terminate the state wide night time<\/div>\n
curfew in order for them to have the leeway to operate again and roll<\/div>\n
back the gains of the last few weeks.”<\/div>\n

Governor Wike said he has received reports about the excesses of the<\/div>\n
State Task Force on illegal trading and parks, especially the alleged<\/div>\n
shooting of motorists, extortions and abuse of the human rights of<\/div>\n
citizens.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He assured that government will not hesitate to bring the full weight of<\/div>\n
the law on any member of the task force who crosses the boundaries of<\/div>\n
the law and rational behaviour.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The governor, who appealed to motorists and residents to be responsible<\/div>\n
road users by complying with the clear regulations against illegal<\/div>\n
trading, indiscriminate parking and irresponsible driving, noted that<\/div>\n
the situation where some motorists would have the effrontery to compete<\/div>\n
for traffic space with or even attempt to block his official vehicular<\/div>\n
convoy leaves much to be desired.<\/div>\n

He has meanwhile, directed the management of the State’s Waste<\/div>\n
Management Authority to clear the State of filthiness within one week or<\/div>\n
