{"id":82124,"date":"2021-06-12T17:27:48","date_gmt":"2021-06-12T16:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=82124"},"modified":"2021-06-12T17:27:48","modified_gmt":"2021-06-12T16:27:48","slug":"idps-challenge-overwhelming-we-cant-cope-any-longer-ortom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/idps-challenge-overwhelming-we-cant-cope-any-longer-ortom\/","title":{"rendered":"IDPs Challenge Overwhelming, We Can\u2019t Cope Any Longer \u2013 Ortom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Governor Samuel Ortom has cried out over the overwhelming challenges of catering for the rising number of Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State.<\/p>\n<p>Ortom, while answering questions on the plights of IDPs when he briefed newsmen in Makurdi on Saturday about the achievements of his second term in office to mark this year\u2019s Democracy Day, lamented that the administration could no longer cope with caring for the IDPs.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cOur challenge is that these attacks are ongoing and swelling the numbers of the IDPs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has made it very difficult for us to cope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2018, we opened eight camps but today there are increasing numbers of the IDPs due to resurgence of attacks in Agatu, Ado and Konshisha areas among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe challenges are really overwhelming and we can\u2019t cope any longer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the truth. We are really in a humanitarian crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The governor, therefore, urged good spirited individuals to extend their kind gestures toward the displaced people whose numbers he estimated to have reached 1.5 million across the state since renewed attacks on rural communities commenced.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cone million people were profiled before renewed attacks but right now, we are talking about over 1.5million IDPs in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ortom further appealed to the federal government to redeem its N10billion promise made to the IDPs in some states of the country including Benue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Samuel Ortom has cried out over the overwhelming challenges of catering for the rising number of Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State.
