{"id":82383,"date":"2021-06-18T08:03:18","date_gmt":"2021-06-18T07:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=82383"},"modified":"2021-06-18T08:03:18","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T07:03:18","slug":"kenneth-kaunda-last-of-african-freedom-fighters-is-gone-obasanjo-mourns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/kenneth-kaunda-last-of-african-freedom-fighters-is-gone-obasanjo-mourns\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenneth Kaunda: Last of African freedom fighters is gone \u2013 Obasanjo mourns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that the death of Kenneth Kaunda marks the end to the list of African freedom fighters on earth.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nObasanjo described the late Zambian President as \u201cone of the pioneers who led the struggles for the decolonisation of the African continent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was said that Kaunda and others like him fought and received the instrument of independence from the colonial masters in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The former President said this in a statement, describing as sad, the news of a man he called \u201ca founding father of Zambia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obasanjo appealed to all Africans and her friends to take solace in the fact that President Kaunda has gone home to what he termed a well-deserved rest.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed confidence that the late African leader would \u201cproudly take his place beside his fellow African brothers such as Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya, Habib Bourguiba of Tunisia, Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, L\u00e9opold S\u00e9dar Senghor of Senegal, Nnamdi Azikiwe of Nigeria, F\u00e9lix Houphou\u00ebt-Boigny of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Ahmed S\u00e9kou Tour\u00e9 of Guinea, Patrice Lumumba of Congo, Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Nelson Mandela of South Africa and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that \u201call of them, without exception, were nationalists who made sacrifices in diverse ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He condoled with President Edgar Lungu, the government and the people of the Republic of Zambia.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that the death of Kenneth Kaunda marks the end to the list of African freedom fighters on earth.
