{"id":82513,"date":"2021-06-20T19:43:43","date_gmt":"2021-06-20T18:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=82513"},"modified":"2021-06-20T19:43:43","modified_gmt":"2021-06-20T18:43:43","slug":"onochie-dont-test-the-will-of-nigerians-pdp-cautions-lawan-gaya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/onochie-dont-test-the-will-of-nigerians-pdp-cautions-lawan-gaya\/","title":{"rendered":"Onochie: Don\u2019t Test the Will Of Nigerians, PDP Cautions Lawan, Gaya"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, not to test the will of the people in his desperation to push through, the confirmation of President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s aide, Lauretta Onochie, as a national commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the wishes of the people and the dictate of the 1999 Constitution\u00a0 (as amended).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The PDP said Senator Lawan is directly testing the will of the people by his failure to return Onochie\u2019s nomination to President Buhari as demanded by Nigerians.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan said the party cautions that the Senate President is pitching the institution of the Senate against the generality of Nigerians, adding that the consequence of such arrogant derision to the definite provision of the 1999 Constitution as well as the precise demands by Nigerians to return Onochie\u2019s nomination to Mr. President, could cost the institution its respect with the people.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Our party is appalled that Senator Lawan, who swore to protect the constitution, will brazenly debase its clear provision in paragraph 14 of the 3rd schedule by sending a card-carrying member of a political party for clearance as INEC national commissioner.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Sending Onochie&#8217;s nomination to the Senate Committee on INEC for clearance is completely offensive to all parliamentary procedure of due process as it is akin to sending the name of President Buhari to the committee for clearance as INEC Chairman or national officer.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;If he meant well, Senator Lawan ought to, upon receiving the obnoxious nomination, immediately returned same to President Buhari and advise him to send a replacement.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Senator Lawan must know that he is holding the office of the Senate President in trust and that the constitution has ample and unambiguous provisions with regard to a legislative official, who chooses to grossly violates its provisions, as being witnessed in his desperation to confirm Onochie as INEC official.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;In the same vein, our party, in solidarity with Nigerians, urges the Chairman of Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Kabiru Gaya, to detach and distance himself from Senator Lawan, in his mission to desecrate the sanctity of our electoral system.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;PDP counsels Gaya not to heed to Lawan\u2019s push urging him to move against the demand by Nigerians that Onochie\u2019s consideration be turned down.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\" dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, not to test the will of the people in his desperation to push through, the&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":82514,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-82513","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
