Some stakeholders in Anambra State, have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to embark on extensive grassroots sensitization to ensure the success of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in Anambra state.<\/div>\n
\nAnambra citizens in Awka on Friday decried the numerous challenges associated with previous registrations.<\/p>\n

It would be recalled that the Continuous Voter Registration commenced on Monday across the nation with its online version.<\/p>\n

Registrants are expected to open the INEC portal, fill the forms, upload their pictures and required documents, before booking appointments for the physical capture of their fingerprints at INEC\u2019s State and Local Government offices.<\/p>\n

The physical capture of registrants will start on the 19th of July in INEC offices, while the Commission have not fixed dates for the exercise at the 2,673 Registration Centres across the nation.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu has assured that the commission acquired the equipment for the exercise, updated its registration softwares and replaced Direct Data Capture Machines, DDCM with the INEC Voter Enrolment Device, IVED.<\/p>\n

All these are aimed at overcoming the challenges of machine malfunctioning, data and network failure, poor battery and delays in producing Permanent Voter\u2019s Cards.<\/p>\n

Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi, a Rights crusader commended the introduction of online registration by INEC in this era of technology driven activities.<\/p>\n

He, however, explained that poor preparations and use of obsolete equipment, may affect the programme.<\/p>\n

Also Mr John Nwankwo, a Community Leader, expressed concern about the poor sensitization of the people to the exercise.<\/p>\n

He lamented that he is yet to collect his Permanent Voter\u2019s Card, having registered many years ago.<\/p>\n

He urged INEC to put measures in place to ensure effective continuous registration of eligible voters to avoid the hiccups associated with overcrowding and system malfunctioning.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
