{"id":84313,"date":"2021-08-01T23:09:43","date_gmt":"2021-08-01T22:09:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=84313"},"modified":"2021-08-01T23:09:43","modified_gmt":"2021-08-01T22:09:43","slug":"zlp-replaces-guber-candidate-ugwoji-with-obiora-okonkwo-jessie-balonwu-as-deputy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/zlp-replaces-guber-candidate-ugwoji-with-obiora-okonkwo-jessie-balonwu-as-deputy\/","title":{"rendered":"ZLP replaces guber candidate, Ugwoji with Obiora Okonkwo, Jessie Balonwu as Deputy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1706929954534026811\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has substituted its governorship candidate for the November 6 election in Anambra state Mr Uche Ugwoji with chairman of United Nigeria Airline, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The party will also unveil Okonkwo and his running mate, Barr Jessie Balonwu, a former lawmakers and Commisioner in Anambra State to the people in a soon to be announced date.Okonkwo, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had resigned from the party at the weekend after contesting to fly the flag of the party in the November 6 governorship election in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Media adviser to Okonkwo, Mr Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu who disclosed the substitution of the party\u2019s candidate to Okonkwo said the process was completed on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>Uchegbu in a press release made available to THE RAZOR NEWS in Awka said: \u201cWith the development, Dr. Okonkwo will now be on the ballot as candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for the November 6 election in Anambra State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe submission followed Dr. Okonkwo\u2019s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Okonkwo resigned from the PDP in protest following outcome of an illegitimate primary election where the Party abandoned its constitution and foisted on the members a process that cannot stand the test of the law thereby leaving the party with a barrage of litigations that do not point a clear direction as the November 6 election approaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso submitted to INEC was the name of Dame (Barr.) Jessie Balonwu, a former member of the House of Representatives and also a former State Women Leader of the PDP, as running-mate to Dr. Okonkwo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDame Balonwu, who is from Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra North Senatorial District, was also the first Igbo female senator-elect and Commissioner for education in Anambra state.
