Following the controversy in Abia State over which zone produces the next governor in 2023, a retired Army officer, Major General Ijioma Ijioma, has tasked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to stand for equity and not allow those he described as agents of confusion to sow seeds of rancor and disunity in the state.<\/div>\n

Ijioma who gave the advice to the Governor during a meeting of Abia North people resident in Abuja, titled\u00a0\u201cOchichi Abia State 2023 is for Abia North\u201d, insisted that that 2023 is the turn of Abia North senatorial zone to produce the next governor and urged Ikpeazu to toe the path of equity which also produced him as Governor in 2015.He explained that Igbo people are known for upholding equity and fairness, stressing that\u00a0this accounts for the reason Igbo people are vehemently resisting the federal government for their obnoxious policy against the Igbo.<\/p>\n

In his words; \u201cAs Ndigbo, we cannot afford to be condemning the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari for his exclusion policy against Ndigbo, and also turn around, advocate and perpetrate the same political tendencies within Abia State and against ourselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cIgbo people are vehemently resisting the federal government for their obnoxious policy against Ndigbo, so the people of Abia North in particular and Abia State in general will vehemently resist any attempt by anyone that wants to cause confusion in the state, no matter how highly placed. Some politicians are going about sowing the seed of discord, acrimony and conflict which is capable of enthroning a political culture that is cancerous enough to destroy Abia state. No one should contemplate doing this. It is akin to the age long axiom of throwing stones in the market, you do not know on whose head it will land.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot afford to advocate for equity and political inclusiveness at the federal level and turn around to want to subjugate the people of Abia North, or any part of Abia State.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbia North should not just talk about 2023; the zone must be supported to present its best for the governorship position. The best person with experience, academic qualification and capacity to move the state forward;\u00a02023 will provide a challenge to Abia North to put forward her best in character, academic, reasonableness and performance.\u00a02023\u00a0will no longer be politics of stomach infrastructure but politics of essence, politics of purpose and that of fulfillment and accomplishment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not going to be politics of our turn but politics of direction and development. It will be the politics of eminently qualified people, leading the politics of accomplishment<\/p>\n

He advised Ikpeazu to sustain the prevailing peace and understanding in the state through supporting power shift to the Abia North zone in 2023, adding that the state cannot afford to exclude any zone from the governorship position.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Nigeria suffers today is the exclusive tendencies of the federal government against a particular group of people from the South East. And if that is brought home to Abia, we are certainly going to be destabilized, so we need peace at this point in time. Governor Okezie Ikpeazu should stand for equity and leave a legacy that should speak for him. I\u2019m\u00a0convinced that the political leaders of Abia State are reasonable and wise people who understand the need for equity and justice, both concepts are very dear to Igbo people.<\/p>\n

\u201c2023 should not be about politics of stomach infrastructure, but politics of essence, politics of purpose and that of accomplishment.\u00a0It is not going to be politics of our turn but politics of direction and development. It should be the politics of eminently qualified people, leading the politics of accomplishment. Abia has the wherewithal to achieve it, and Abia North has the people that can accomplish it.\u00a0We are committed. It is written in the holy book that those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall run and not be tired.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
