{"id":85004,"date":"2021-08-20T22:54:42","date_gmt":"2021-08-20T21:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=85004"},"modified":"2021-08-21T01:12:37","modified_gmt":"2021-08-21T00:12:37","slug":"farmers-death-heavy-presence-of-soldiers-police-in-ife-modakeke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/farmers-death-heavy-presence-of-soldiers-police-in-ife-modakeke\/","title":{"rendered":"Farmers\u2019 death: Heavy presence of soldiers, police in Ife, Modakeke"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1708650555052927477\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">There is a heavy presence of soldiers and police in Ile-Ife and Modakeke over tension that arouse after five farmers were killed in the area.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Residents told our correspondent that some police and soldiers are patrolling streets and while others occupy strategic locations.According to one of the residents, Elu, some of the security operatives were seen in front of Ooni of Ife\u2019s Palace and the border towns between Ife and Modakeke.<\/p>\n<p>Pointblanknews.com had reported that there was tension Friday morning in the area after five farmers were killed.<\/p>\n<p>Meanhwile, Osun State Government allayed the fears of a possible resurgence of the Ife\/Modakeke crisis.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the government also appealed to the people of the areas not to allow criminal elements to seize any situation to unleash mayhem on the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment has also ordered immediate deployment of armed policemen with support from the army in the trouble areas to forestall possible breakdown of law and order,\u201d the statement issued by osun Information Commissioner, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, added.<\/p>\n<p>Egbemode said an emergency meeting of government officials with heads of security agencies over the situation in Ife and Modakeke areas was held.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the statement read, \u201cGovernment, while sympathising with the families of those that died in the unfortunate incident, also called on security operatives to get to the root of the circumstances leading to the death of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also counselled residents and citizens not to take the laws into their hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Governor personally spoke to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Moses Oyediran Oladejo and they both assured him of their commitment to peace by ensuring that the people from both areas also continue to remain peaceful and law abiding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs government, we are resolved to do everything possible to protect citizens from actual and potential threats.
