All roads and Business centres were shut for the second time in Aba, the commercial city of Abia state, since the suspension of the weekly Monday sit at home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB)<\/p>\n
No motorist was on sight as banks, markets, shops were also deserted as traders and customers stayed away.<\/p>\n
The city was a ghost town as even the ubiquitous tricycle operators deserted the roads.<\/p>\n
However, it is a different story in Umuahia as government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were open following the warning by the state government to civil servants to be at their duty post or risk sanctions. Some motorists were seen on the roads conveying passengers to their destinations.<\/p>\n
Banks, markets and other economic centres were also shut.<\/p>\n
A cross section of residents told Pointblanknews.com that they stayed at home for fear of attack by hoodlums who may want to use the opportunity to loot their shops.<\/p>\n
“We chose to stay at home because of the fear that hoodlums may seize the opportunity to attack us and loot our shops.”<\/p>\n
However, other residents commended IPOB for suspending the sit at home order, but urged the government to provide adequate security to protect lives and property in the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
