{"id":85235,"date":"2021-08-25T21:13:38","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T20:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=85235"},"modified":"2021-08-26T12:29:34","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T11:29:34","slug":"ortom-plays-ethic-politics-causes-death-of-innocent-citizens-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/ortom-plays-ethic-politics-causes-death-of-innocent-citizens-presidency\/","title":{"rendered":"Ortom plays ethic politics, causes death of innocent citizens \u2014 Presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The Presidency has accused Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State of taking the cheapest and lowest route by playing ethnic politics that causes deaths of innocent Nigerians.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe Presidency in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja, Wednesday, described the Benue State Governor as an unstable character that should not be entrusted with the office of a governor.<\/p>\n<p>The Presidency\u2019s statement was a reaction to the governor\u2019s comments when he (Ortom) appeared on Channels television programme, Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, where he accused President Muhammadu Buhari of having a fulanization agenda.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe governor, who claimed that he has been banned from going to the State House, also accused the President of nepotism, alleging that the administration at the centre favours only the Muslim and the Fulani ethnic group from the north.<\/p>\n<p>He also accused President Buhari of attempting to impose open grazing to Benue State, while he (Buhari) had approved about N6.2 billion for ranching in his home state of Katsina.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Presidency in its reaction to the allegations said, \u201cGovernor Samuel Ortom has few political principles. We can see this from the fact that he has changed political parties five times during his undistinguished career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time he feels the wind may be blowing in a certain direction, he follows it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, for the good citizens of Benue State, the most dangerous direction he blows in today is that of sectarianism and ethnicity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an attempt to boost his sinking political fortunes, Ortom takes the cheapest and lowest route possible by playing on ethnic themes \u2013 and in doing so knowingly causes deaths of innocent Nigerians by inciting farmers against herders, and Christians against Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecifically, Ortom stirs up hatred by targeting one single ethnic group in Nigeria \u2013 using language reminiscent of the Rwandan genocide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs was the case in Rwanda where the then Hutu leaders of the country incited their countrymen against each other, claiming there was a \u201csecret Tutsi agenda\u201d over the Hutu, Ortom claims there is a \u201csecret Fulanization agenda\u201d over other ethnic groups in his state and in Nigeria. This is a copy of the language of Hutu Power \u2013 which falsely, and intentionally, accused the Rwandan Tutsi of plans to dominate the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis wicked talk is aimed at giving cover to his so-called \u201cpolicy\u201d on the Ranches Establishment Law \u2013 which in reality is purely an act of denial of the law \u2013 intended to withhold rights and freedoms from one ethnic group alone, whilst inciting race hatred against them amongst all others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are not the actions of a man who should be trusted with running public services or holding public office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the governor of a major state in Nigeria to be politically driven by ethnic hatred is a stain on our country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good, and fair-minded people of Benue State deserve more than this, and we look forward to the next elections when they have an opportunity to restore its greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidency has accused Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State of taking the cheapest and lowest route by playing ethnic politics that causes deaths of innocent Nigerians.
