Obinna Ichita, yesterday, escaped death during a town hall meeting at his Constituency Office located at No.20 Port Harcourt road, Aba.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pointblanknews.com gathered that Ichita, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had convened the meeting to discuss the way forward about the dilapidated state of roads in Aba South<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lawmaker lamented that the state government has abandoned roads in his constituency, adding that he has been receiving threats to keep quiet on the situation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He handed a seven day ultimatum to the state government to address the pitiable state of roads in Aba South after which his constituents would embark on protest over the poor state of roads in the area.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hardly had the lawmaker concluded his speech when hoodlums numbering over 50 stormed the venue of the meeting armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons disrupted the meeting as the lawmaker fled on sighting the hoodlums.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many people including journalists suffered varying degrees of injuries during the stampede while the hoodlums took over as policemen guarding the lawmaker also ran away.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The hoodlums vandalized two jeeps belonging to the lawmaker, among other valuables from his constituents.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The situation created panic as shop owners and motorists also fled.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A team of mobile policemen later rescued the lawmaker and his supporters, while motorists returned to the area.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking after the incident; Ichita vowed that the incident would not deter him from demanding what is due to his constituency.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said; \u201cWe were not violent, we didn\u2019t fight anybody and we were very peaceful. Not long ago, they came here to attack me and my constituents. Before now, I had already informed the world that there is a threat to my life. I have petitioned the National Secretary Adviser, I informed the Commissioner of Police, I also informed the Director of State Security. We were just having a town hall meeting and they came and attacked us and destroyed our vehicles. Thy carted away our valuables. My vehicle has been destroyed. We had a resolution that we are giving the state government seven days ultimatum to fix roads in Aba South constituency. After seven days, we will embark on protest in Aba.
