{"id":86041,"date":"2021-09-18T02:28:32","date_gmt":"2021-09-18T01:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=86041"},"modified":"2021-09-18T02:28:32","modified_gmt":"2021-09-18T01:28:32","slug":"exchange-rate-fg-to-shut-down-popular-aboki-fx-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/exchange-rate-fg-to-shut-down-popular-aboki-fx-website\/","title":{"rendered":"Exchange rate: FG to \u2018shut down\u2019 popular Aboki FX website"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1711185695094357492\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe Federal Government has said it will shut down the operations of Aboki FX, a website providing currency exchange information, which the bank described as an illegal and criminal platform.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who disclosed this while fielding questions after the Monetary policy committee\u2019s two-day meeting in Abuja on Friday, noted that the bank also plans to prosecute the owner of the platform, Olusegun Oniwinde.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI have given instructions to our experts to go after his website and let it be clear that we will go after him because we can\u2019t allow this to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Emefiele, the CBN doesn\u2019t recognize any forex market window besides the Investors and Exporters window.<\/p>\n<p>Checks by our correspondent showed that the website, Aboki FX, is still up as of the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n<p>Naira-dollar exchange rate has soared on the platform in the last couple of days. The platform currently recommends that Bureau de Change operators buy dollar at N560 and sell at N570.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nOn ban of forex sales to Bureau de Change operators, Emefiele said that the bank will not go back on its previous stance.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, these BDC operators sell foreign exchange to criminals who import weapons to harm Nigerians and promote different forms of terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>The CBN Governor said, \u201cIt truly beats my imagination that Nigerians continued with this type of practice (selling dollars to BDC) that tended to promote illegal activities who are involved in graft and corrupt practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won\u2019t support the corrupt tendencies of those who illegally buy dollars from our forex market, carry them in aircraft, buy arms and ammunition and bring them back into the country and conduct crimes. Whether it is Boko Haram, banditry and other nefarious activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy will CBN give people our forex to go and buy arms? And that is what people want us to continue to do. We cannot do that.
