{"id":86115,"date":"2021-09-20T09:13:02","date_gmt":"2021-09-20T08:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=86115"},"modified":"2021-09-20T09:13:02","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T08:13:02","slug":"inec-enugu-office-set-ablaze-election-materials-destroyed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/inec-enugu-office-set-ablaze-election-materials-destroyed\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC Enugu Office Set Ablaze, Election Materials Destroyed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1711407088838568831\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) local office in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State has been reportedly set ablaze.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAccording to a statement by Barrister Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee made available to journalists on Sunday, the building was set ablaze in the early hours of\u00a0 morning, Sunday, September 19, 2021, resulting in extensive damage to mainly the Stores Section where election materials are kept.<\/p>\n<p>However, Okoye, said that the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Enugu State, Emeka Ononamadu, who reported the attack on the building, also informed that there were no human casualties in the incident.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to him, \u201cFortunately, all movable election materials had been evacuated following recent attacks on INEC offices in the State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThe identity or motives of attackers are unknown while the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He further noted that, \u201cThe Commission appreciates the prompt response of the security agencies comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as the Enugu State Fire Service and the Awgu Local Government Neighbourhood Watch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unfortunate incident is the first since the last attack on our facilities four months ago in May 2021\u201d, he concluded.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) local office in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State has been reportedly set ablaze.
