{"id":86337,"date":"2021-09-25T22:00:12","date_gmt":"2021-09-25T21:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=86337"},"modified":"2021-09-25T22:00:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-25T21:00:12","slug":"florida-governor-appoints-nigerian-american-as-surgeon-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/florida-governor-appoints-nigerian-american-as-surgeon-general\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Governor Appoints Nigerian-American As Surgeon-General"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m8699\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor, U.S. has appointed a Nigerian-American, Dr Joseph Ladapo, as Florida Surgeon-General and Secretary of the Department of Health.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr DeSantis in a statement posted on the Florida Department of Health website, stated that he was pleased to announce Ladapo for the position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased to announce that\u00a0 Ladapo will lead the Florida department of health as our state\u2019s next surgeon-general<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLadapo comes to us by way of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, with a superb background.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to him, Ladapo has had both a remarkable academic and medical career with a strong emphasis in health policy research.<\/p>\n<p>The governor said: \u201dLadapo will bring great leadership to the department of health, \u201d thanking both Dr Scott Rivkees and Dr Shamarial Roberson for their hard work on behalf of all Floridians.<\/p>\n<p>Lieutenant-Governor, Jeanette Nu\u00f1ez described Mr Ladapo\u2019s as \u201can excellent choice to serve as our next surgeon general.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLadapo has impeccable credentials and a strong vision to effectively serve the people of Florida at the helm of our public health agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough his service to our state, we will continue Florida\u2019s work to advance our public health goals,\u201d Nu\u00f1ez said.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr Ladapo said he is honoured to have been chosen by Mr DeSantis to serve as Florida\u2019s next surgeon-general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must make health policy decisions rooted in data and not in fear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom California, I have observed the different approaches taken by governors across the country and I have been impressed by DeSantis\u2019 leadership and determination,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The new surgeon-general said he was impressed by DeSantis\u2019 leadership to ensure that Floridians were afforded all opportunities to maintain their health and wellness, while preserving their freedoms as Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a privilege to join his team and serve the people of Florida,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ladapo was recently granted a professorship at the University of Florida, UF College of Medicine.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nPrior to joining UF, he served as an associate professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, UCLA, caring for hospitalised patients.<\/p>\n<p>He is a graduate of Wake Forest University, who also holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in Health Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor, U.S. has appointed a Nigerian-American, Dr Joseph Ladapo, as Florida Surgeon-General and Secretary of the Department of Health.
