The Save The Nation Movement (STNM) has hailed the dismissal of the
\npetition by the Oron Union against the establishment of the Ibom Deep
\nSeaport Project, in Akwa Ibom State.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, by its National Secretary,
\nComrade Stevens Chilaka, the STNM said the dismissal of the Oron Union
\npetition by the Federal Ministry of Transportation has vindicated the
\nAkwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, and demonstrated the Federal
\nGovernment’s commitment to the development of the country.<\/p>\n

The Ibom Deep Seaport project, which is expected to create hundreds of
\njobs and recently approved by the Federal Government had been mired in
\ndispute over the location and alleged name change.<\/p>\n

The Oron Nation had been opposed to the project due to its alleged
\nrelocation from the original Ibaka site in Mbo local government area
\nof the state to another location in Ibeno local government area. The
\nOron Nation also kicked against the change of name of the project from
\nIbaka Deep Seaport to Ibom Deep Seaport.<\/p>\n

But the state government has insisted the port project is best suited
\nat the new location in Ibeno.<\/p>\n

However, laying to rest the protest by the Oron Union, the Federal
\nMinistry of Transportation wrote a letter dated April 22, 2021.<\/p>\n

The letter, referencing the Petition number: IDSP\/ 02\/21\/ MOT, titled;
\n\u201cIllegal Relocation of Ibaka Deep Seaport\u00a0 from Ibaka Bay to Ibeno
\nBay” was signed on behalf of the Minister by AD Suleiman, Director of
\nMaritime Services.<\/p>\n

It reads in part; \u201cthe Ministry conducted an extensive in-depth
\ninvestigations into the matter with the view to establishing the
\nveracity or otherwise of the allegation. The petition was consequently
\nfound to be lacking in merit, and unsupportive of the reality on
\nground.<\/p>\n

“Accordingly, you are enjoined to advise Oron Union to cooperate and
\nsupport Akwa Ibom State Government in its quest to successfully and
\ntimely execute the project for the overall interest of the citizens of
\nthe State and the Nigerian economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its reaction, the\u00a0 STNM described as unpatriotic, those who went
\nabout casting aspersion on the person of the governor for accusing the
\nOron Union of writing unfounded, spurious, and unsubstantiated
\npetitions to scuttle the Ibom Deep Seaport Project.<\/p>\n

The STNM posited that now that letter from the Ministry of
\nTransportation dismissing the petition is in the public domain, those
\nwho
\nsaid Governor Udom Emmanuel did not put the facts right and that the
\nOron Union did not write petitions to scuttle the project need to
\napologise to the Governor.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
