{"id":86710,"date":"2021-10-06T17:41:34","date_gmt":"2021-10-06T16:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=86710"},"modified":"2021-10-06T17:41:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T16:41:34","slug":"nigerians-below-18-not-allowed-to-own-sim-cards-ncc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/nigerians-below-18-not-allowed-to-own-sim-cards-ncc\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerians below 18 not allowed to own SIM cards \u2014 NCC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m11399\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said Nigerian citizens below the age of 18 would not be allowed to own a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe commission revealed this in a recent publication on its official website.<\/p>\n<p>The draft copy of the modified registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations as seen by Vanguard, revealed that only subscribers above the age of 18 are entitled to SIMs.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAccording to the commission, the new regulation was in line with the powers conferred upon the commission by section 70 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nIn accordance with Section 57 of the Act, the NCC conducted a Public Inquiry on the Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations, alongside the draft SIM Replacement Guidelines and the draft Spectrum Trading Guidelines at its head office in Abuja on Tuesday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nTelecoms giant, MTN had opposed the new regulation, particularly the age limit, opining that the age limit should be 14 and not 18 years as declared by the commission.<\/p>\n<p>The NCC, however, maintained its stance adding that the age limit remains 18 years.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said Nigerian citizens below the age of 18 would not be allowed to own a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card.
