{"id":87105,"date":"2021-10-16T16:24:21","date_gmt":"2021-10-16T15:24:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=87105"},"modified":"2021-10-16T16:24:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-16T15:24:21","slug":"presidency-to-sustain-nigeria-north-south-zoning-must-be-written-in-the-constitution-says-shehu-sani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/presidency-to-sustain-nigeria-north-south-zoning-must-be-written-in-the-constitution-says-shehu-sani\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidency: To sustain Nigeria, North-South zoning must be written in the constitution, says Shehu Sani"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1713789501736152108\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has said that zoning must be written in the constitution to sustain Nigeria.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nSani said this during an interview on Channels Television, stating that the principles of fairness and equity must be incorporated to ensure that no part of the country dominates another.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI think to solve this problem, this needs to be clearly stated in our constitution and it should be written in the language that there would be no interpretation whether it is Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and Ijaw,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the presidency is in the north for eight years, it should be in the south for eight years so that there will be no need for a lawyer or legal luminary to explain this thing to us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are going to sustain this country, we need equity, justice, fairness and fair play and ensure that one part of the country does not dominate power for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it cannot be done on the altar of threat and intimidation. These are issues that can be resolved between the political elites in the north and the south on a table for the unity and peace of Nigeria.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAmidst concerns that the presidency might fall to incompetent hands because of power rotation, Sani said Nigeria can have both zoning and competence as the yardstick in deciding who will be president in 2023 while adding that all parts of the country are blessed with competent leaders.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWell, we can have both. All parts of Nigeria are blessed with competent leaders that can stir the ship of the Nigerian state for progress,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as I\u2019m concerned, I come from the part of the country that is virtually under the siege of terrorists and bandits.
