The Department of Petroleum Resources, the Petroleum Products Pricing<\/span>\u00a0Regulatory Agency and the Petroleum Equalisation Fund are all officially scrapped and do not exist anymore, the\u00a0Federal Government<\/span>\u00a0said on Monday.<\/div>\n

It also said while workers of the three\u00a0agencies<\/span>\u00a0would be protected, their chief executives had been relieved of their various appointments.<\/p>\n

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, stated this while speaking on the side-lines of the inauguration of the\u00a0boards<\/span>\u00a0of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory\u00a0Commission<\/span>\u00a0in Abuja.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0explained<\/span>\u00a0that with the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act, the NPRA and NURC had taken over the functions of the DPR, PPPRA and PEF.<\/p>\n

Responding to a question on what would happen to DPR following the inauguration of the board of NURC, Sylva said, \u201cIt is now a matter of law.<\/div>\n

\u201cThe law states that all the assets and even the staff of the DPR are to be invested on the\u00a0commission\u00a0and also in the authority. So that means the DPR doesn\u2019t exist anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, of course, the law specifically repeals the DPR Act, the Petroleum Inspectorate Act, the Petroleum Equalisation Fund Act and the PPPRA Act. The law specifically repeals them. It is very\u00a0clear<\/span>\u00a0that those\u00a0agencies\u00a0do not exist anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

On what would happen to the chief executives and\u00a0employees<\/span>of DPR, PEF and PPPRA, the minister replied, \u201cThe law also provides for the staff and the jobs in those\u00a0agencies\u00a0to be protected.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m sure that that doesn\u2019t cover, unfortunately, the chief executives, who were on political appointments.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
