{"id":87268,"date":"2021-10-20T09:36:34","date_gmt":"2021-10-20T08:36:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=87268"},"modified":"2021-10-20T09:36:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-20T08:36:34","slug":"dokpesis-statement-on-igbo-presidency-illogical-unfortunate-south-east-elders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/dokpesis-statement-on-igbo-presidency-illogical-unfortunate-south-east-elders\/","title":{"rendered":"Dokpesi\u2019s statement on Igbo Presidency illogical, unfortunate \u2013 South-East elders"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m13827\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council of Igbo Elders has said Ndigbo are not desperate for the presidency to warrant the outburst of Chief Raymond Dokpesi that if an Igbo man becomes president of Nigeria he will divide the country.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe former Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party had through a statement on Monday alluded that Nigerians feared a president of Igbo extraction would allow the country\u2019s breakup, citing separatist agitation by Indigenous People of Biafra in the South East.<\/p>\n<p>Dokpesi had said, \u201cIf nobody has told Ohanaeze Ndigbo before, the concern today from some other regions is that if Nnamdi Kanu plays the role of Aguiyi Ironsi in leading a militant revolt against constitutional government in the South-East under Igbo presidency, the president will be pressured by his base to facilitate the UN processes for the South-East to call for independence from Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThus an Igbo president may be compromised in protecting the political and geographic boundaries of Nigeria whilst Nigeria remains under the threat of IPOB\u2019s secessionist activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Chairman, Council of Igbo Elders, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, pointed out that there were agitations for separation across the regions today.<\/p>\n<p>Iwuanyanwu, while describing Dokpesi\u2019s statement as unfortunate, said Ndigbo had supported a united Nigeria practically, making investment all over the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat he said is just like somebody who says if you give the presidency to somebody from North-East or North-West that the people will break away because Boko Haram want to break away from Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoko Haram has even conquered part of those places and occupied some local governments.
