Anyim Pius Anyim, ex-Senate President, has announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2023.<\/div>\n

Anyim says he will contest whether the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) zones the position to the South-East or not.<\/div>\n
\nThe former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) declared his bid on Saturday.<\/div>\n
\nHe told reporters that the PDP was being repositioned as the national convention would mark the start of political activities.<\/div>\n
\nAnyim said he initially distanced himself from campaign posters and calls by groups because it was early then.<\/div>\n
\nThe politician said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration needed to concentrate on governance.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cSuch calls resurfaced in the early part of 2021 and I chose to be quiet.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWe have less than 18 months to the next elections and I feel the time is ripe to indicate my interest.\u201d<\/div>\n
\nAdmitting there will be zoning, he insisted such doesn\u2019t stop anyone from the South-East from contesting.<\/div>\n
\nOn PDP\u2019s \u201cconflict\u201d with former Chairman, Uche Secondus, Anyim confirmed he remained a friend to many members.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cHe is particularly my friend, we do not have any problem with him. The issue is that the party needed to move; he is not going into the wilderness\u201d, said the ex-SGF.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
