The Anambra State Police Command has described as “fake news” online reprts purporting to be the confession by a gunmen arrested by “security agents” in the state.<\/p>\n
The report purported that the arrested gunman accused All Progressives’Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Senator Andy Uba of hiring him to destabilize the state.<\/p>\n
The State Commissioner of Police Mr. Echeng Echeng described the story dubbed \u201dMY GANG WAS PAID MILLIONS BY ANDY UBA TO KILL AND MAIM IN ANAMBRA\u201d as fabricated by politicians saying the Command or other security agencies never arrested such suspect.<\/p>\n
The police boss spoke through his deputy Commissioner, Operations, DCP Aderemi Adeoye.<\/p>\n
The CP noted that no such suspect was ever arrested by the police or any other security agenciy in Anambra State, saying such reports were concocted by politicians to smear their opponents.<\/p>\n
“Anybody can sit in the comfort of his room to write anything just to smear or libel anybody. This is a criminal.offence. Apparently, that was why the author of the fake news attributed their origin to a non-existent medium called “Parrot News, Enugu.<\/p>\n
“The social media is used to posting videos clips of confessional statements made by suspects. Curiously, in this case, a transcript was circulated – showing that it was completely fabricated to deceive the public,” the CP said.<\/p>\n
He reminded that no one is above the law and that if any statement was made with proof against anyone, no matter how highly placed, the person would have been invited for questioning.<\/p>\n
The police boss advised the general public, particularly, the people of Anambra State not to panic or be intimidated by such propaganda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
