{"id":88385,"date":"2021-11-11T13:07:34","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T12:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=88385"},"modified":"2021-11-11T13:07:34","modified_gmt":"2021-11-11T12:07:34","slug":"nnamdi-kanus-us-lawyer-to-petition-icc-over-rights-abuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/nnamdi-kanus-us-lawyer-to-petition-icc-over-rights-abuses\/","title":{"rendered":"Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s US lawyer to petition ICC over \u2018rights abuses\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m18978\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bruce Fein, the American lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, has threatened to drag Nigeria to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged gross violation of his client\u2019s rights.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Fein was in court on Wednesday to monitor the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), but he was denied access into the courtroom.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, Fein said: \u201cToday was the fifth time I was told I could not enter the courtroom despite the court\u2019s previous order that Nnamdi could have access to any three persons he wants to.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cI had the chance to talk briefly to him on my way to the courtroom. It is clear that I am the target in particular. That\u2019s the reason why this proceeding did not transpire today.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cAnd I\u2019m here to tell Nigerians and the international community that I\u2019m taking this to international tribunals. It is clear that the Nigerian tribunals are compromised.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The lawyer said he will petition \u201cthe Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in Geneva, the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the ICC in the Hague and I\u2019ll be going to the United States Congress and urging that sanctions be considered against Nigeria for gross violations of fundamental human rights\u201d.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cI\u2019m here not to be an irritant but there are huge international law issues that are present in Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s case. I\u2019m here because I\u2019m an international expert to provide more enlightenment on what legal issues are present here,\u201d Fein added.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Meanwhile, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu\u2019s lead counsel, said the legal team did not walk out of the court, instead, they were locked out.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWhat happened in the court today is the height of travesty of justice. We have more than 50 lawyers who are here in solidarity so we were outside trying to resolve it,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWhen we came to the court, they still insisted that they could not allow the maximum of five persons to have access to the court. And there is space in the court for us to sit.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWe were still trying to resolve it when the judge came in and we were all locked out. When attention was called to the fact that we were outside the court protesting about what happened.
