{"id":88624,"date":"2021-11-16T14:30:04","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T13:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=88624"},"modified":"2021-11-16T14:30:04","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T13:30:04","slug":"food-inflation-hit-20-75-as-prices-rise-further-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/food-inflation-hit-20-75-as-prices-rise-further-in-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Food inflation hit 20.75% as prices rise further in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Bureau of Statistics, yesterday, said that the annual food inflation rate rose for the 24th consecutive month to 20.75 per cent in October from 20.71 per cent in September, owing to further increases in the prices of basic food items.<\/p>\n<p>The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, disclosed this in its Consumer Price Index, CPI and Inflation Report for October 2021, saying: \u201cThis rise in the food index was caused by increases in prices of food products, coffee, tea and cocoa, milk, cheese and eggs, bread and cereals, vegetables and potatoes, yam and other tubers.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Consequently, the Food inflation rate has risen by 7.38 percentage points since May 2019 when it dropped to 13.37 per cent.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the NBS report showed that the annual Headline inflation rate continued on its downward trend to 15.99 per cent in October from 16.63 per cent in September, indicating a steady slow down in price increases across the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Consequently, the inflation rate has fallen by 2.18 percentage points since March when it peaked at 18.17 per cent, the highest in four years.<\/p>\n<p>The NBS said: \u201cThe consumer price index (CPI) which measures inflation increased by 15.99 percent YoY\u00a0\u00a0 in October 2021. This is 1.76 per cent points higher than the rate recorded in October 2020 (14.23) percent.
