{"id":89103,"date":"2021-11-26T07:53:16","date_gmt":"2021-11-26T06:53:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=89103"},"modified":"2021-11-26T07:53:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T06:53:16","slug":"ndlea-intercepts-n2-7bn-cocaine-at-abuja-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/ndlea-intercepts-n2-7bn-cocaine-at-abuja-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"NDLEA Intercepts N2.7bn Cocaine At Abuja Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m21485\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 9.30 kilograms of cociane worth over N2.7 billion at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\nThe NDLEA spokesperson, Mr Femi Babafemi, in a statement in Abuja, said a 32-year-old drug trafficker based in Liberia, Maduabuchi Chinedu, was arrested with the consignment.<\/p>\n<p>Babafemi said the suspect who hailed from Obaha Okigwe village, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state, lived in Liberia where he worked as a miner.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspect was arrested during an inward joint search of Ethiopian Airlines flight 911 at the Abuja airport on Nov. 24.<\/p>\n<p>He said the drug, which weighed 9.30kg cocaine, was wrapped in candies wraps and concealed in the suspect\u2019s luggage.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, during his preliminary interview, Chinedu claimed he left Nigeria in 2018 to settle in Liberia where he now has a residence permit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe, however, added that economic pressure and the need to raise money to treat his mother for an eye problem led him to seek help from a friend in Liberia,\u201d said the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Chinedu said it was the friend who introduced him to another friend based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, who eventually gave him the drug to deliver in Abuja for a fee of N1 million.<\/p>\n<p>He added that he was initially scheduled to deliver the drug in Cote d\u2019Ivoire but was rerouted to Nigeria at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p>Babafemi quoted the Chairman, NDLEA, (rtd.), Brig. Gen.
