The Abia Government on Tuesday said that it had signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) for the laying of fibre optic cable across the state.<\/p>\n
Mr Emeka Nwachukwu, the Special Adviser to Abia Governor on NEPAD and NAPEP, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia that the intention was to create conducive environment for investors.<\/p>\n
“The effort is to turn the state economy around. Fibre cable technology is the in-thing across the world today.<\/p>\n
“Most investors will like to do business where such technology exists,\u2019\u2019 Nwachukwu said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the state signed the MoU with the Broad Based Telecommunications Company, a Lagos-based firm, adding that the project would be completed within 12 months.<\/p>\n
He said the project would help investors explore the numerous potential existing in various sectors like e-trading, e-learning, e-banking and security.<\/p>\n
Nwachukwu said the decision to lay the cables by Gov. Theodore Orji, was as a result of the limitations encountered using the wave length transmission.<\/p>\n
He explained that with the fibre optic transmission, such limitations would not happen.<\/p>\n
“In using wave length transmission for instance, Internet browsing would be faster, the response you get when you want to open a page or link-up to other networks might be delayed.<\/p>\n
“But in the case of fibre optic, it is quicker,\u201d he added, pointing out that the system would help security operatives in handling the security challenges.<\/p>\n
“With the new technology, it will be possible to mount close-circuit cameras and monitor strategic points and activities of criminals in different locations.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
He advised communities where the lines would pass through to cooperate with the company and avoid acts capable of frustrating the realisation of the project in time. (NAN)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
