{"id":89352,"date":"2021-11-30T18:06:55","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T17:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=89352"},"modified":"2021-11-30T18:06:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T17:06:55","slug":"breaking-court-voids-ex-emir-sanusis-banishment-from-kano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/breaking-court-voids-ex-emir-sanusis-banishment-from-kano\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Court voids ex-Emir Sanusi\u2019s banishment from Kano"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m22219\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared as unlawful and a violation of the fundamental human rights of the ex-Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, his banishment from Kano and forceful relocation to Awe in Nasarawa State.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nJustice Anwuli Chikere, in a judgment on Tuesday, held that the manner Sanusi was forcefully removed from the palace after his dethronement and taken by operatives of the police and State Security Service (SSS) on the directive of the Kano State Government, to Nasarawa State against his will was a vicious violation of his rights to personal liberty and freedom of movement.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Chikere, who declared as a nullity, the Emirate Council Law 2019 under which the Kano State Government claimed to have acted, held that as a citizen of Nigeria, who has committed no offence, Sanusi was entitled to reside in any part of the country.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The judge, who awarded N10 milion damages against the Kano State Government, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the SSS, also ordered them to offer public apology to Sanusi in at least two national dailies.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) was sued as the fourth respondent, Justice Chikere excluded the AGF from the suit on the grounds that the applicant failed to establish his case against the fourth respondent.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared as unlawful and a violation of the fundamental human rights of the ex-Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, his banishment from Kano&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":82426,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-89352","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
