{"id":89360,"date":"2021-11-30T18:14:36","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T17:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=89360"},"modified":"2021-11-30T18:14:36","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T17:14:36","slug":"apc-court-sides-shekarau-faction-voids-gandujes-ward-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/apc-court-sides-shekarau-faction-voids-gandujes-ward-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"APC: Court sides Shekarau faction, voids Ganduje\u2019s ward congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m22223\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama has voided the ward congresses conducted by the faction of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nJustice Hamzat Muazu subsequently declared that the congress conducted by the faction led by former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and lawmaker, Sha\u2019aban Sharadaas, is the authentic exercise, effectively handing over the structure of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State to Shekarau and Sharadaas.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the Kano APC under the leadership of Ganduje had on July 31, 2021, returned all its candidates unopposed across the 44 local councils, unanimously electing the 13,068 ward executive members across the 484 wards.<\/p>\n<p>Rejecting the option of consensus, a member representing Sharadaas, lamented that the process had excluded some party loyalists.<\/p>\n<p>Sharadaas, Chairman, House Committee on Security and Intelligence, alleged that the party had denied members willing to contest in the ward congress opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n<p>He subsequently teamed up with Shekarau to conduct a parallel congress and submitted its report to the APC leadership in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the controversy, the faction loyal to Sharadaas and Sehekarau approached an FCT High Court to challenge the authenticity of Ganduje\u2019s exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Their lawyer, Nureni Jimoh, argued that the Ganduje faction did not conduct any election but merely wrote a result under the guise of \u2018consensus candidacy\u2019.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThey sought four reliefs including an order \u201cvoiding and or setting aside any other list of any other report\/ directives given by the defendants on August 9, 2021, or any other date, other than the valid, proper and authentic summary result sheets for ward congress, elected delegates and state delegates of Kano State consisting of the plaintiffs\u2019 names as the duly, valid and democratically elected ward executive committees, ward delegates to the local government areas and ward delegates to the state party congress of the 1st defendant of Kano State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the APC from receiving, accepting and acting or purporting to act on, rely on or approving any other list or purported list emanating from other than the duly constituted ward congress of the APC consisting of the names of the plaintiff.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Muazu ruled that the consensus committee report by Ganduje was invalid while that of Shekarau\u2019s faction was authentic having conducted elections and produced results.<\/p>\n<p>The court is expected to deliver judgment on the local government congress.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama has voided the ward congresses conducted by the faction of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
