{"id":89363,"date":"2021-12-01T03:05:27","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T02:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=89363"},"modified":"2021-12-01T03:05:27","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T02:05:27","slug":"endsars-lagos-releases-white-paper-on-lekki-panel-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/endsars-lagos-releases-white-paper-on-lekki-panel-report\/","title":{"rendered":"EndSARS: Lagos releases White Paper on Lekki panel report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1717892242188021560\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Lagos State Government has released its White Paper on the report by the EndSARS panel that probed the Lekki toll gate incident of October 20, 2020.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe Babajide Sanwo-Olu government faulted the panel\u2019s report that nine persons were killed at the toll gate when soldiers stormed the protest ground to disperse the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>In the White Paper sighted by Pointblanknews.com on Tuesday night, the government described the claim of the panel that nine persons were shot dead as \u201cassumptions and speculations\u201d.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nIn a short statement, Gboyega Akoshile, the Chief Press Secretary to Sanwo-Olu, said one of the recommendations of the panel was rejected.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement titled, \u2018Highlight of the Lagos Government White Paper On The Lekki Incident Investigation\u2019, he said, \u201cOut of the 32 Recommendations made by the JPI in its Report of 15th November 2021, Government accepted 11, rejected one and accepted six with modifications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFourteen recommendations fall outside the powers of the Lagos State Government and will be forwarded to the Federal Government for consideration. Let the healing begin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS-related Abuses and Other Matters had on November 15, 2021, submitted its report after which Sanwo-Olu set up a White Paper committee.<\/p>\n<p>The four-member committee was led by Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN).<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the committee are; Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu; Special Adviser, Works, and Infrastructure, Engr. (Mrs) Aramide Adeyoye and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Mrs. Tolani Oshodi.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAccording to the leaked report of the judicial panel, at least nine #EndSARS protesters were killed at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The report listed 48 names as those who were casualties of the Lekki incident of October 20, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Among the 48 casualties listed, 24 sustained gunshot injuries, while 15 others were assaulted by soldiers and police.<\/p>\n<p>The judicial panel was inaugurated on October 19, 2020, to look into complaints of citizens against human rights abuses by the police.
