{"id":89990,"date":"2021-12-17T16:06:01","date_gmt":"2021-12-17T15:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=89990"},"modified":"2021-12-17T16:06:01","modified_gmt":"2021-12-17T15:06:01","slug":"alleged-forgery-fani-kayode-pleads-not-guilty-granted-n5m-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/alleged-forgery-fani-kayode-pleads-not-guilty-granted-n5m-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged Forgery: Fani-Kayode Pleads Not Guilty, Granted N5m Bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1719403818152198526\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has granted bail to a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in the sum of N5 million.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe granted the bail on Friday following an oral application made by the counsel to the former minister, Wale Balogun.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The bail conditions included that the defendant must fill an undertaking to attend all his trial dates and to present a surety in like sum, who must be resident in the court\u2019s jurisdiction and should also fill an undertaking that the defendant would attend all hearings.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Before the court heard the bail application, Justice Abike-Fadipe first ruled on an application by the former minister challenging the powers of the jurisdiction of the court to try him on the charge of forgery and procurement of a \u2018fabricated\u2019 medical report made against him by the Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It dismissed the objections of the defence counsel and held that it had jurisdiction to try the case. This paved the way for Fani-Kayode to be arraigned on all 12 counts of alleged forgery of medical reports to which he pleaded not guilty.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The anti-graft agency had specifically accused Fani-Kayode of procuring one Dr Ogieva Oziegbe to issue the fake medical report, which he allegedly tendered before the Federal High Court where is currently standing trial before Justice Daniel Osiagor for money laundering allegation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">But the former minister had, through his lawyer, submitted that the alleged offence was said to have occurred in Abuja and not in Lagos, and the court lacked the powers to try him.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has granted bail to a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in the sum of N5 million.
