{"id":91232,"date":"2022-01-27T11:47:17","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T10:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=91232"},"modified":"2022-01-27T11:47:17","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T10:47:17","slug":"subsidy-removal-fgs-recent-decision-linked-to-2023-nba-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/subsidy-removal-fgs-recent-decision-linked-to-2023-nba-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Subsidy Removal: FG&#8217;s Recent Decision, Linked To 2023 &#8211; NBA President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata has said that the Federal government of Nigeria\u2019s decision to rescind its earlier decision to remove petrol subsidy is linked to the 2023 election.<\/p>\n<p>Akpata in an interview monitored\u00a0 on Channels Television said the decision to postpone the planned subsidy removal is a temporary solution in line with the politics of the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThe subsidy issue is a hot potato for any government, particularly in this part of the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have loved to think that the decision to suspend fuel subsidy removal is because the government cares so much about the people, and that it is a government that is listening to the cries of the people, because indeed, as the minister of finance mentioned, it would be really tough if subsidy removal is implemented at this time with all of the other supervening circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, something tells me that this has more to do with what is in the offing \u2014 an election is coming up. The strategists would probably have sat down to think about it and they have told themselves and those who they advise that it would be political harakiri \u2014 it would be suicidal \u2014 at this point in time to take out subsidy going into an election, which is just around the corner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose kinds of hard decisions I don\u2019t think are the kind of decisions you want to take going into an election. Those are my thoughts.
