{"id":91337,"date":"2022-02-01T05:06:20","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T04:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=91337"},"modified":"2022-02-01T05:06:20","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T04:06:20","slug":"financial-times-says-osinbajos-presidency-will-give-nigeria-respite-after-the-buhari-disaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/financial-times-says-osinbajos-presidency-will-give-nigeria-respite-after-the-buhari-disaster\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial Times says Osinbajo\u2019s presidency will give Nigeria respite after the Buhari disaster"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1723522807866496969\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The highly regarded London-based Financial Times Newspaper has given the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari some knocks for presiding over an unworkable country since 2015.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nIn an article published on Monday, the newspaper said Nigerians will feel better if Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, were to be elected president in the 2023 general election.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cIf Yemi Osinbajo, the technocratic Vice President, were miraculous to make it through the campaign ticket and emerge as president, the hearts of Nigerian optimists would beat a little faster,\u201d it said<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that may be to underestimate the depth of Nigeria\u2019s quagmire. The problem is not so much who leads the government as the nature of government itself.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the Financial Times, the Buhari administration failed to tackle the country\u2019s insecurity, Nigeria\u2019s debt profile increased under his watch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuhari has overseen two terms of the economic slump, rising debt and a calamitous increase in kidnapping and banditry \u2013 the one thing you might have thought a former general could control,\u201d the newspaper added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext year, many of the members of government will change, though not necessarily the bureaucracy behind it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCampaigning has already begun for presidential elections that in February 2023 will draw the curtain on eight years of the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, on whose somnolent watch Nigeria has sleepwalked closer to disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper also said financial strength has remained a crucial determinant of the country\u2019s election winners.<\/p>\n<p>The media outlet said Nigeria\u2019s presidential election is estimated to cost $2billion (N1 trillion.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamiliar candidates to replace him (Buhari), mostly recycled old men, are already counting their money ahead of a costly electoral marathon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes an estimated $2billion to get a president elected.
