Dr Chidia Maduekwe, the Managing Director, Nigerian Film Corporation<\/div>\n
\n
(NFC), has joined the race for the Abia 2023 governorship election,
\nunder the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).Maduekwe said this when he spoke with newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja,
\nsaying that he joined the race to help regain the lost glory of the
\nstate.
\n\u201cOur present situation in Abia demands immediate response. There is no
\nroom for margin of error, nor for trial and error.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe principles of fresh esoteric management theories have no place in
\nthe present governance need of Abia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe solution lies with known and workable principles that can guarantee
\nthe urgent emancipation and migration of Abia people who are currently
\nlocked up within the enclave of decrepit deplorable despondency into
\nself-assured dependency.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is born out of certainty embedded or encapsulated within the
\nsingle affirmative and assertiveness in the principles of Nkaa G\u2019eme,\u201d
\nhe said.
\nMaduekwe added: \u201cThe urgency is now! because we are now working dead in
\na land that was just a couple of decades ago reputed for its ascendency
\nwithin the comity of nations as one of those critical components of our
\nunion\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWe became serially, politically depraved while politically good men
\nstood akimbo or lost the zeal to intervene with strength and vigor
\nneeded for our collective rescue.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday all that is set to change with my humble self-throwing my hat in
\nthe ring.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that if given the opportunity to fly the APC flag he was
\nprepared to give Abia people good governance centered on four pillars \u2013
\neducation, energy, economy and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He said that the value of education with its accompanying value chain
\nmust be brought back to the front burner if the state must unlock its
\nhighly rated God given potential to be counted as one of the Nigerian
\nstates leading the country in different spheres of human endeavours.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo Abia child shall be left behind. Associated educational
\ninfrastructure development shall be pursued all through its value chain.<\/p>\n

\u201cSingapore instituted similar agenda in spite of being far behind
\nNigeria in the 60\u2019s today we can feel how far behind as a nation we are
\ntrailing,\u201d Maduekwe said.<\/p>\n

On energy, he said that he plans to make Abia a topmost green and
\nrenewable energy state in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

He added that he also plans to work with relevant Federal Government
\nagencies to encourage the state to tap from its God given resources in
\nthe Compressed Natural Gas sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe national grid shall become secondary source of power to the Abia
\nwithin 24 months of our leadership in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere shall be natural gas revolution with associated productivity and
\nadvantages of the entire value chains
\n\u201cOur economy shall be smart economy once the two earlier components of
\neducation and energy are well emplaced,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also promised to work in synergy with the state legislature towards
\nthe passage of two important bills within 60days of assuming office.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese bills include \u2013 abolition of the humongous drawings of security
\nvote to a collectively acceptable limit not exceeding 20 per cent of the
\ncurrent monthly drawings.<\/p>\n

\u201cUrban renewal authority bill to be passed by the state House of
\nAssembly shall focus on ensuring three cities in Abia takes the center
\nstage with infrastructural developmental stride,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Maduekwe promised to transform Abia into the commercial hub for Nigeria
\nand the ECOWAS sub region.
\n\u201cAba remains the commercial nexus for Africa since most entrepreneurs in
\nWest Africa and Central African states and beyond have identified it as
\na good business location.<\/p>\n

\u201cRestoration of Aba back to glory is a national duty that will rub off
\nin no small measure to Nigeria as a whole hence Aba is beyond being
\ncalled an Abia city.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is indeed a Nigeria city and proudly so and can only be restored
\nback to glory through the combined effort of every Nigerians,\u201d Maduekwe
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

He urged all people of Abia and critical stakeholders to individually
\nand collectively join him as he set out on a journey to restore,

\ninstitutionsThe President of Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, says senate will intervene to
\navert possible crisis on allegations of hike in registration fees by
\nsome tertiary institutions particularly in the northern part of the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n

He made this known on Wednesday while receiving in audience at the
\nNational Assembly, a delegation of the Coalition of Northern Groups
\nStudents Wing (CNG-SW) led by its National Coordinator, Mr Jamiu
\nCharanchi.<\/p>\n

The senate president underscored the importance of education to any
\nsociety and promised that the senate would swing into action by engaging
\nrelevant authorities with a view to preventing anything that could cause
\ndisruption in their learning process.<\/p>\n

\u201cEducation is the bedrock for any nation, society or community to
\ndevelop.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd any society that do not prioritise education will\u00a0 suffer stunted
\ndevelopment and the repercussions of not educating citizens are better
\nimagined.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe at this moment, that hike in fees is very unnecessary but I
\nalso believe that government must prioritise education and what that
\nmeans is not only to establish the institutions but to support our
\nstudents all the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a senate and indeed as members of the national assembly representing
\nyou, we are going to take this matter very seriously. We are going to
\nlook into it very seriously and closely and expeditiously and we want to
\nfind a solution to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an opportunity for me to appeal to our state governments across
\nthe country to continue to support education of our citizens seriously
\nby providing them necessary scholarship and giving them in time when
\nthey will be very helpful.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere at the Federal level, the senate will work hard to ensure that we
\ndo something that will change the narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, the leader of the group, Charanchi said their mission was to
\nregister their concerns over reports of an impending plan by both the
\nFederal and state governments to commercialise education.<\/p>\n

He alleged that some institutions particularly in the northern part of
\nthe country,\u00a0 were reported to have doubled their registration fees.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is in line with the above that we at the CNG\u2019s students\u2019s\u00a0 wing
\nrequest the quick intervention of your esteemed office.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appeal to you on behalf of the millions of Nigerian students and
\ntheir families to see to the reversal of the hike which will enable
\nstudents from poor and marginalised families have access to tertiary
